STRANGE balls of light, blurred shadows of men, and creepy darkness captured by a high-end camera sent shivers up the spine of tourists who recently visited the historic Malinta Tunnel on Corregidor, Bataan.
Various images taken from inside Malinta -- which served as a refuge for American and Filipino soldiers during World War II -- showed innumerable balls of light above the tourists? head, along the tunnel and amidst the sculpted figures of soldiers.
The tourist spot which showcases dramatic events of WW II through a light and sound show now serves as a house of spirits that never go away, said the psychic who examined the eerie pictures.
The ghouls, asserted the psychic named Stargazer, are apparently those of Japanese soldiers who were said to have committed suicide by blowing themselves up prior to the recapture of Corregidor by the American forces during the war.
Captured in a photo are two blurred figures of men. One of them looks like a soldier wearing a uniform and a hat with a small cloth attached to it. He is half-kneeling, with his back to the camera.
The other man seems to be a patient sitting on the lower portion of a double-decked bed.
?These spirits manifest themselves as orbs. They are energies of spirits or ghosts who have existed physically. The spirits manifest themselves either in human form or as a small orb,? the 42-year-old psychic said.
These orbs normally manifest in compressed areas like a tunnel where static energy is high.
Spirits or orbs are sensitive to high-end gadgets such as cameras. But technology experts usually debunk similar images as merely deflection (curving downwards or backwards) of lights.
?The orbs greeted the visitors upon entering Malinta,? noted one lady tourist from Manila. She was referring to the picture with orbs hovering above as the tourists entered the tunnel.
Why they manifest
Orbs or spirits go back to the place where their mortal body died, according to Stargazer. In the case of the Japanese soldiers who killed themselves, the tunnel had been their last refuge.
The spirits have not moved on to the other plain, so they remain earthbound for a long time, Stargazer explained.
?Their death was tragic. They chose not to move on dahil hindi nila matanggap na kailangan nilang magpakamatay, it was against their will. Sila ?yung mga naiwan.
These spirits have never left the tunnel because they are trapped either by their own resentment or realities in life,? said the psychic who predicted the exact time and date of Pope John Paul II?s death in 2005 and the Leyte landslide this year.
Stargazer said an orb may be physically seen with the third eye or even felt by the senses.
??Yung orb na ?yun [the highlighted figure beside the double deck] was chosen to show, kasi parang siya ang authority,? she pointed out.
The tourists, mostly women from Manila who have spotted the orbs directly from the camera, were quite shocked upon seeing one image that was zoomed in more than five times its normal view.
?The orb has a pair of eyes in it. It appears the eyes belong to a nurse as the figure suggests,? one of the lady tourists went on to tell People?s Tonight.
Stargazer said: ?You won?t see a human figure inside the orb but parts of face like eyes, nose and mouth. Eyes can be seen most of the times.?
Meanwhile, Fr. Glen Gomez, spiritual director of the Christ the King Seminary in Quezon City, said it?s possible there are spirits present inside the tunnel ?for they could be in partial judgment or in purgatory, according to the Catholic Church doctrine.?
?Kapag namatay ang tao, dalawa lang ang pupuntahan ng kaluluwa niya. Sa partial judgment, the spirit could be in three places -- puwedeng diretso sa heaven, impiyerno, at purgatoryo. Sa final judgment, dalawa lang -- it?s either heaven or hell,? the priest said in a phone interview.
Stargazer averred that orbs or spirits are not able to hurt people, so there is no reason to be scared if one sees or senses them.
?They won?t hurt you,? she assured. ?We just get scared because we feel ?yung negativity nila. In turn, we get their energies at tayo rin ay nagiging negative or depressed, kasi malakas silang makahalo sa energies, especially when they are all around you.
Pero, ?pag ikaw naman ang depressed, they tend to sympathize with you.
?But ghosts basically cannot hurt you. Ang makaka-hurt sa iyo ay demons or negative spirits because they have more intense energy. Mas sanay na sila to move around in the form of spirits.?
The spirits will remain in the tunnel, the psychic said, adding: ?It?s just a matter of accepting them as our co-existent.?
?Kahit anong cleanse mo riyan [Malinta Tunnel], they won?t go away if the spirits chose to stay at wala pa silang acceptance. Habitat nila ?yun, kaya not one spirit would dare to come out of the tunnel unless kinaibigan sila ng tao at sumama sila,? she said.
