'Ghost' man whispers up new deal

[Carol]

Ghost Whisperer creator John Gray has scared up a new two-year contract with Touchstone Television to remain holding the creative reins of the hit supernatural drama.
The series, which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as a woman with the gift of being able to communicate with spirits who have unfinished business in the physical world, was one of the better performers among the 2005-06 TV season debutantes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gray will write and direct the show's two-hour 2006-07 season opener and several other episodes while supervising the creative team for the rest.

He told the trade publication the show's second season would largely stick to its core formula of giving viewers a good scare and a good cry.

A regular cast member was killed off at the end of the first season, and the search is on for a new recurring character.
