If ghosts really exist, TV producers needn?t lavish on big-budget, paranormal special effects in their programmes to scare us. This is probably why most real-life ghost sightings are quite disappointing and not scary at all ? a shadow here, a flash of light there and so on ? unlike what?s depicted on TV. Or maybe ghosts don?t exist at all ...
Regardless, some people have gone on missions to uncover and explore the supernatural and they?ve often invited other people to participate in their quest. One such ghost-seeking group is the Seekers ? guided by a man called Uncle ? its five members Sis, Adeek, Ayien, Roni and Dzool have travelled around Malaysia in search of paranormal activities. They?ve even recorded their exploits shown for two seasons on ntv7. Shooting for the third season will begin in several months time.
The Weekend Mail mustered up the courage to ask the Seekers about their top 10 most haunted sites in the Klang Valley.
Bukit Tunku
What the Seekers say: ?Over 95 per cent of deserted bungalows in Bukit Tunku have seen supernatural phenomenons.
?The Seekers have two years worth of footage shot at these houses and they showed dark figures and elements resembling insects that then morphed into something else. The houses have seen all sorts of supernatural phenomenons.?
Weekend Mail says: If this is true, we?re not talking about a haunted house, but literally a haunted zone. Well, if the houses have seen EVERYTHING supernatural, it therefore makes Bukit Tunku worth a mention.
A construction area in Ampang
What the Seekers say: ?There are things here some Malays call hantu raya (celebration ghost) or jembalang hitam (black ghost) which are usually 10 feet tall and have small arms. The Seekers have previously recorded something black and tall at this construction site.?
Weekend Mail says: Many people have talked about how haunted this place is, therefore checking it out is worthwhile.
Masjid Sungai Parit Serong
What the Seekers say: ?This mosque has been deserted for more than 50 years. Located in the middle of a cemetery, the nearby kampung folk dare not linger around here. The Seekers have previously recorded, among other things, sounds of sawing at night even when no one was around, and the appearance of a shadow-like figure.
?Because many people know the mosque is haunted, it had beckoned ntv7 to cover it. The villagers wanted people to know the place is haunted to boost tourism in the area.?
Weekend Mail says: This is one of three haunted hotspots in Parit Serong. Regardless, we love the way the locals try to promote ?ghost tourism? over there.
Bukit Telungku, Selangor
What the Seekers say: ?A girl was reported missing here and no one knew why. The Seekers went there to investigate and recorded a 20-foot high jembalang appearing suddenly before vanishing quickly.?
Weekend Mail says: Luckily, none of the Seekers went missing.
Rumah Kiyai at Parit Serong
What the Seekers say: ?A Koran teacher once resided in this house and for some reason, the people around here believed that his orchard is patrolled by a hantu raya. After the Koran teacher died, no one dared set foot into the place.
?The Seekers went there to investigate and all five of our cameras suddenly stopped functioning! Also, an unfamiliar woman?s voice was heard, for three or four seconds, on our walkie-talkies. Eventually, our cameras had to be repaired at the cost of RM1,500.?
Weekend Mail says: Ouch! Apparently, the ghost knew where to hit them where it hurt most.
Kuala Selangor Tokong
What the Seekers say: ?Before the tokong became popular, the Seekers recorded orbs and a vortex phenomenon here. Now the place is famous among punters seeking lucky lottery digits with some paranormal help and people have even built a road leading to it. People have even held karaoke competitions and God knows what else here.?
Weekend Mail says: The blatant commercialism of the place is scarier than the supposed ghostly existence.
Banglo Istana
What the Seekers say: ?The Seekers nicknamed this bungalow as Banglo Istana, located in Shah Alam. Many strange things have happened here, for example, when a pool of water reacted strangely as if a stone was thrown into it, causing ripples and other effects. But nothing happened to cause this reaction in the first place.?
Weekend Mail says: Could it have been a fish coming up for air?
May 13 cemetery in Selangor
What the Seekers say: ?This cemetery is where all the tombstones are marked May 13, 14 and 16, and also the words ?Ehsan Kerajaan Malaysia?. In the middle of over 100 Chinese graves here, lies a Malay grave of one Harun bin Mohd and it?s where the Seekers have recorded a pontianak flying around us.?
Weekend Mail says: A pontianak is usually depicted as a woman. Could Harun have been a ...?
Rumah Racun at Parit Serong
What the Seekers say: ?A female rubber-tapper committed suicide in this house. The Seekers went there and recorded a sperm-looking orb which had a tail and even a visible nucleus.?
Weekend Mail says: Wow! Ghost jism! Here?s hoping it won?t become an egg later.
The Leprosy Prison in Selangor
What the Seekers say: ?During British rule, convicts with leprosy were incarcerated in this isolated prison, which the Seekers visited and investigated for supernatural activities. We have recorded a door strangely appearing to be opening and closing in a part of the prison that?s without doors. Who knows, it could?ve been a portal to the other world.?
Weekend Mail says: This place makes a perfect setting for a Stephen King story.
