The recent ghost sightings in suburban Philadelphia echo paranormal encounters across the country.
And sometimes, these alleged encounters include the specters of the rich and famous - long departed.
The Web site About.com - which serves as a fact warehouse for all kinds of trivia - has several sections that track celebrity ghost sightings.
For example, did you know that spirits may inhabit the White House?
About.com's Ghost Guide, writer Stephen Wagner, cites the ghost of President Abraham Lincoln as a frequent guest at the White House - long after his assassination. Among the people who encountered Lincoln's ghost was Winston Churchhill.
But a more unusual section on the Web site's Paranormal Phenomena section discusses the "Ghosts Of Hollywood." Similar sites are www.unexplained-mysteries.com and www.legendsofamerica.com, which also track celebrity ghost sightings.
Included in this roster of famous spirits is a "Who's Who" of actors from Hollywood's golden age.
* Marilyn Monroe. Her spirit is said to haunt a Hollywood hotel she frequented.
* George Reeves. The original TV "Superman" also suffered a mysterious death in 1959. His visage - complete with cape - was reportedly seen at his last home.
* Rudolph Valentino. The silent movie heartthrob's ghost has reportedly seen in different locations in Hollywood.
* John Wayne. His spirit allegedly haunted The Wild Goose, his favorite boat, after his death.
* John Lennon. His ghost was reportedly seen in New York, where he was shot. And Paul McCartney said he felt a "spirit" at Abbey Road in 1995 when the Beatles re-recorded some songs.
* Lucille Ball. The TV icon's spirit reportedly haunts her Hollywood home.
* Redd Foxx. The late comedian reportedly haunts the TV soundstage where he suffered a fatal heart attack.
Of local interest is the possible spirit of Ben Franklin, which has been seen at the Philosophical Society's library in Philadelphia.
