This next article sounds more like the classic "Old hag" or sleep paralysis phenomena rather than anything Paranormal
BEING a night owl, I used to study into the wee hours when I was sitting for the STPM examination. Early one early morning, at 2.45am to be precise, my neighbour?s two mongrel dogs began baying. The unearthly sound seemed to be contagious because, soon, it sounded like every dog within earshot was making the eerie sound. I?d never heard anything like it before.
Just as I was getting really nervous, the baying subsided. In the extraordinary silence that followed, I heard the sound of wooden clogs on the street outside my window. Clogs worn by someone in a hurry who didn?t care if he or she woke up the whole neighbourhood.
Wondering who this thoughtless person could be, I peered out of my room?s window. To my surprise, I couldn?t see anybody at all. The whole stretch of road was well lit and clear and the sound of the wooden clogs was still distinct ? yet there was no one there!
Feeling the hair on my neck standing up, I quickly shut the window and berated myself for scaring myself with my wild imagination. Or maybe my mind was just tired from all the studying. Yes, that must be it, I thought, berating myself and saying I had more important things to do than scare myself silly; I had an exam to study for.
And the moment I shut the window, the sound of the clogs grew fainter until it dissipated into the early morning air. That?s that, I thought.
But, much to my disgust, I couldn?t concentrate anymore. So I switched off the lights and jumped into bed, thinking that life would return to normal in the morning. Little did I know that the sound of the wooden clogs I had heard was a prelude to what I was about to experience?.
Right after I fell asleep, I was rudely awakened by a weight astride my abdomen and the feeling of air being squeezed from me. Then I felt fingers tightening around my throat ? and I was gasping for air. I struggled to open my eyes and prise the fingers off my throat.
Finally, I managed to open my eyes a little; all I could see was a small, hazy, female form ? it looked like a little girl about five years old ? with black, unruly hair covering its face. Out of breath, I had almost given up fighting when it occurred to me to attack instead of simply trying to pry those unnaturally strong fingers off. So I punched at her head and shoulders with all my might.
Suddenly, the weight came off my abdomen, the fingers were gone, and I was panting for air. The girl was gone.
I switched on the lights and quickly woke my little sister up. All through this drama, she had been sleeping peacefully on another mattress right next to me. When I asked her if she had heard me calling out for help and gasping for air, she told me sleepily that she had dreamt I had called for help and was drowning but she was unable to help at all.
That night, we slept with the lights on. My parents refused to believe my encounter when I told them the next morning. To this day, nobody believes my strange encounter. I myself don?t know what to think of it. To this day, I wonder who the little girl was and why she picked me to be her victim.
