The Saline Creek Pioneer Village and Museum ghost hunters did not go away disappointed after their weekend research.
Members of Southern Paranormal Experiences and Research have hours of audio and videotape to sort out, but they had enough strange pictures early Sunday morning they are eager to pour through the other data.
"One resembles a girl kneeling in the graveyard. We were all pretty impressed with that," SPEAR member Sandy Tullock said.
The photo is of a grave in the Pauper Cemetery with a yucca growing beside it. There is a white misty shape that overlaps the yucca. Tullock said her group made out the shape of a girl's head with long hair looking down toward the ground as though in prayer.
There is another misty shape to the side and at the top is a feature that really excited the group.
There appears to be two faint red eyes and mouth upon a bush.
The group had another chilling experience in the jail on the museum grounds. A series of three photos shows a faint line above the noose, mist creeping in toward the noose, then a thick mist like cigarette smoke enveloping the noose.
Saline County Historical Society Chairman Eric Gregg said one of the SPEAR members held a device that measures the amount of electromagnetic energy which initially registered zero. One of the members sensed a presence in the jail and observed the gauge jump to three. When she asked if there was someone there the gauge went up to four and returned to three. She asked if the person had done something wrong and the device again went to four and back to three.
"She asked, 'Are you sorry for what you did?' It went to five, four and three," Gregg said.
Gregg was using a laser pointer and at various times saw mysterious breaks in the air ahead of him at the cemetery. The group took numerous photos showing floating orbs which were not visible to the naked eye.
SPEAR member Sherry Hughes who is more sensitive to paranormal activity than most people had a chilling experience inside the Pauper House which is now the Saline County Museum.
"She said, 'There is a presence there I don't like,'" Gregg said.
The group came to a theory there could be spirits inside the museum that do not like the arrangement of the rooms.
"There is a military room next to a medical room next to a lady's bedroom. Basically, whatever is there is not happy with those being up there like that," Gregg said.
Tullock said photos of the shape in the graveyard and the mist around the noose are unusual to capture judging from her experiences in paranormal investigations.
"They are very few and far between. All of us have digital cameras taking as many pictures as we possibly can. Then we rule out as many abnormal pictures as we can," Tullock said.
They provided Gregg with a compact disk of digital photographs of orbs, mist and other oddities they could not explain away.
Tullock said her group this week is getting together with popcorn and soft drinks to watch the footage their video cameras captured in the museum and are anxious to see if the notorious rocking reported to move on its own does indeed rock.
