POINT PLEASANT BEACH ? The owners of the The Cauldron like to think of their shop as the "Cheers'' of witchcraft.
Many customers visit the store for hours to talk with the store's owners and staff, which includes psychic mediums, angel readers and tarot card readers.
The witchcraft supply store is "certainly like a Cheers,'' owner Angela White said, comparing the store she owns with her sister, Cinzia Zonca, to the bar on the TV show.
The sisters describe themselves as traditional old craft witches, whose practice of performing spells has nothing to do with Satan, they said, but they are not New Age witches, who they said are more religiously based.
The sisters want to use their store to "help people'' and then "send them out into the world,'' Zonca said.
"We truly believe in what we do,'' White said, and "we pride ourselves in not taking advantage of people.''
The Cauldron is the only store in the Shore area that sells only witchcraft supplies, White said. Those who practice witchcraft often buy items online, but White said she likes to be able "to feel something'' so she can know an object's "energy.''
The Cauldron sells spell kits, with everything a person needs to perform a spell on his own. For 50 cents, a customer can buy a spell. Among available spells are those for strength, peace, protection and breaking hexes. All the ingredients needed for those spells, like candles, incense, oils and herbs, can be found on the premises.
Seances are held monthly, and tea parties are held on Tuesdays.
White, a former paralegal from Dover Township, and Zonca, a former dog groomer from Brick, moved to the Shore from North Jersey about seven years ago. They opened their store in January, after performing a spell with a "wish sack'' in August. White said that before signing their lease, she had a vision of their future store at 606 Arnold Ave., a location that used to be a home and garden store.
The Cauldron is open Tuesday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11
a.m. to 4 p.m.
