Operators of a museum in Seattle featuring U.F.O. and Bigfoot displays and ghost tours have asked that a touring exhibition of cadavers be halted.
The directors of the Seattle Museum of the Mysteries, Charlette LeFevre and Philip Lipson, filed a complaint Friday in U.S. District Court. The complaint says the Chinese citizens whose cadavers and body parts are on display in "Bodies ... The Exhibition" never gave consent for their remains to be publicly shown.
Judge John Coughenour refused to issue an emergency injunction. He ruled that the directors failed to show they would suffer immediate and irreparable harm if the show remained open pending consideration of themerits of their complaint.
LeFevre tells the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in an article published Tuesday that, "There isn't a single culture in the world that treats their dead like this."
She and Lipson also have distributed protest fliers outside the exhibit on Saturday mornings and plan a candlelight vigil from 11 p.m. to midnight on Halloween.
Similar shows by Premier Exhibitions Incorporated of Atlanta are on display in New York, Las Vegas, Miami and Monterrey, Mexico, and were held previously in Atlanta, London, Mexico City, Tampa, Florida, and Seoul, South Korea.
