Seeking answers about the hit-and-run accident that killed her sister on Interstate 95 this summer, Shanell Francis is hoping a nationally known psychic can give her a glimpse of the truth.
Francis said producers of the Montel Williams Show have her application to appear on the program with Sylvia Browne, a California-based psychic whose purported talents include communicating with deceased loved ones, and finding murderers and missing children.
While Connecticut State Police assure her they are vigorously investigating her sister's death, Francis said she is frustrated by the lack of information she has gotten from investigators.
"I'm trying to go on as a guest but I don't know where it's going to get me," Francis said. "I haven't gotten anywhere with the police and they have no information."
Francis thinks Browne could help shed light on the events that led to the late night hit-and-run accident which killed her 23-year-old sister Danielle Brockenbaugh, a Byram resident and mother of four.
"I watched her on Wednesday on Montel and she seemed like a person you could rely on," the 33-year-old Bronx, N.Y., resident said. "When she says something, you can believe it."
Attempts to contact producers for the Montel Williams Show about Francis were unsuccessful. Browne is a regular guest of the show.
According to state police, Brockenbaugh was walking south on the northbound Interstate 95 when she was struck by several cars near Exit 5 in Greenwich.
She died of multiple blunt traumas according to police and the investigation is continuing, State Trooper William Tate, a spokesman for the agency said.
"It's still an active investigation and we don't know yet if there will be charges or not," Tate said.
The victim's mother, Darlene Brockenbaugh, said because her daughter's car remained parked at her Anne Street residence, she believes her daughter was taken to the highway and fled or was forced out of the car.
Darlene Brockenbaugh said police told her that her daughter went to a basketball game in Manhattan with a man the evening of her death.
Darlene Brockenbaugh said the man was questioned but state police did not confirm any details of the investigation.
According to a preliminary report on the accident released in late August, troopers responded to several calls about a woman walking south on the shoulder of I-95 northbound near Exit 5 in Greenwich.
A vehicle stopped on the shoulder to check on the woman, the report said. But the woman walked into the slow lane, then into the center lane, where she was struck, the report said.
Danielle Brockenbaugh was hit by other vehicles, many of which did not stop, police said. Police identified only one of the people who stopped to check on Brockenbaugh and Brockenbaugh was dead by the time police arrived, according to police.
"I keep asking: 'What about the drivers who hit her and left,' because that is a hit-and-run, which is a crime," Darlene Brockenbaugh said. "They seem to think it is an accident but she didn't just walk to the middle of the highway."
Danielle Brockenbaugh had four children, an 8-year-old son, Jaymar; and three daughters, Crystyle, 9, Criscilla, 3, and 1-year-old, Chaniece that Darlene Brockenbaugh now takes care of.
Darlene Brockenbaugh is not sure that Browne can help provide answers, but shares the frustration her daughter feels.
"We just want some answers about what happened to Danielle," her mother said. "She believes it will do some good, but I'm not sure if it is real or not."
Anyone with information on Brockenbaugh's death should call Connecticut State Police Troop G at (800) 575-6330.
