Call it fate, serendipity, coincidence or an otherworldly influence, but when I opened the most recent Newburyport Chamber of Commerce newsletter I was drawn right away to one name in the new member listing. Linda Stanton eclipsed all other new members listed and drew me in. I felt compelled to do an article and called her. After she chuckled at the thought of a story, she agreed and we recently sat down in the living room of her modestly appointed Newburyport home to discuss her ?calling.?
Among her many gifts, Stanton is a spiritual counselor, past life reader, spiritual medium, interfaith minister and inspirational speaker. She has a bachelor of arts in divinity from the Universal Brotherhood and has been practicing her craft for 25 years. She has clients all over the world and teaches body, mind and spirit workshops and lectures.
She told me of one man who came to her seeking relationship counseling. She felt so strongly about something during their discussion, she told him that he would receive a speeding ticket within the next couple of weeks at a particular juncture on Route 495 and that the ticket would cost in the neighborhood of $150 and $175. A couple of weeks passed and the gentleman called to tell her the exact time, place and amount of the speeding ticket he had received and to tell her that she was correct in her prediction.
After she told the story, I told Linda that had she told me that same bit of information, I would have locked myself in the house for the day and not driven for a week, to avoid the ticket, the surcharge and to avoid telling her she was right.
She calls herself a ?clairvoyance, clairaudience and clairsendance (sic) psychic, with the ability to see, hear and feel things before they happen.?
In her capacity as a past-life reader, Stanton told me of a reading she did with a 70-year-old gentleman who regressed to that of a New York painter. We further talked about past-life connections and that she believes that people travel in the same circles throughout different lifetimes. People who know each other in this lifetime were likely related to one another in a past lifetime.
I mentioned this premise to someone else, who told me she heard the same thing from another seer. This person told me she heard that she and her husband?s ex-wife were actually mother and daughter, respectively, in another lifetime. ?Some stories are stranger than others,? Stanton said. ?The universe has a way of pulling things together, making connections,? she said.
Even though she counsels people, Stanton maintains that she is not a therapist. ?In therapy, people let go,? she said. She is a spiritual counselor and guides people in the areas of career changes, children, relationships and money. ?I assist people in the right choices. Some choices we have control over; some we don?t.?
As we were talking, I felt as if heaviness was being lifted off me, like a woolen coat was removed from my being. ?You are three chapters away from publishing a book in October or November,? she said.
?A book with pictures or words?? I asked, as my passion for writing is equaled to that of photography and I have just published a photo book of Tall Ships.
?Words,? she said. ?You have only three chapters to go.?
Interesting.
?In March or April of next year you will publish a children?s book of illustrations,? she said.
?A children?s book with photos or illustrations,? I asked.
?Illustrations,? she said.
Again, interesting. I have a friend who is an illustrator, but I am not.
?Maine,? she said. ?I see Maine. You should go. It is the opportunity of a lifetime. You should go and don?t worry about the money.?
Now this is spooky. I had just turned down a trip to a friend?s Maine home for the weekend in favor of my mother?s 65th birthday and a Saturday night photo job in New Bedford.
Then she mentioned some interesting points about my two children. Some hit the nail on the head, other information was a little far-fetched, but nonetheless interesting to hear. We had a nice chat and by the time an hour and a half had passed I felt as if we were old friends ? not sure if we were friends from this lifetime or as past one, but it was fun to chat.
She promotes her business through word of mouth, referrals, conferences and workshops ? and no doubt by curious columnists.
