Far too many incidents of fraud/cheating/duping by the so-called miracle-maker Babas/Fakirs claiming to possess supernatural powers to ward off evil influences or double up jewellery and cash or manage transfers or turn around love life have been reported by the media in the last few months but the tragedy is that instances of this nature continue to take place with unremitting regularity with hundreds of unsuspecting superstitious persons particularly ladies becoming victims of these crooks despite the fact that their clients got nothing but misery and at times jail too.
According to a report appearing in the newspapers of August 30, a Baba duped a simple man of Indore of Rs. 5,000 promising if he performed puja at Panchkuliya crematorium, Indore, his money will be doubled. Obviously, the miracle didn't happen and the Baba decamped with the money leaving his client high and dry. A few days back, a bank employee of Bhopal consulted a Fakir for his transfer and paid hefty fees running into lakhs of rupees. The Baba went on adding to his demands for performing 'Kurbani' to please the spirits controlling the hapless employee's transfer. As was expected, it all ended up in a fiasco with the bank employee defrauding the bank of cash to pay the miracle-maker Fakir and the Fakir disappearing in a vanishing act.
