St. Charles rejects ghost hunters' plea

ST. CHARLES ? City Parks Director Maralee Britton has rejected a request from a ghost-hunting group to spend the night in city-owned Oak Grove Cemetery.

Britton said she and her agency's cemetery advisory committee decided that a midnight-to-3 a.m. stakeout proposed by a small St. Charles-based group called Paranormal and Spirit Seekers "was just not in our best interests."

She said she got more than 15 complaints about the group's proposal from residents, including some relatives of people buried at the cemetery.

Britton also cited liability concerns and the need to have a city employee on hand. She said a city ordinance requires the cemetery to close at dusk.
