Ghost walks return here on July 7
The spooky Brockville Ghost Walks are back for the 10th consecutive season. These popular Friday evening walking tours begin at Fulford Place, 287 King Street East, starting July 7.
Costumed volunteers with the Friends of Fulford Place Association lead visitors through Brockville, stopping at various haunted spots to recount spooky tales of the old city, including the Fulford mansion itself.
Nancy Fraser, author of Mysterious Brockville, collected the ghostly stories several years ago as the basis of the ghost walks. Having completely sold out Mysterious Brockville, Fraser has just published Mysterious Brockville 2, which contains all the original stories, plus six more. At least one of these new stories will be added to the walk, time permitting.
Two walks are offered - the Haunted Brockville Walk lasts two-and-a-half hours and costs $12.50; the Creepy King Street Walk (available August and September only) lasts 90 minutes and costs $9.50. The guided walks are suitable for adults and children over eight years of age. Walkers should wear comfortable shoes as the walks are conducted at a brisk pace.
All tours start at Fulford Place museum, a National Historic Site owned and operated by the Ontario Heritage Trust. The three-storey Edwardian mansion, completed in 1900, was home to Senator George T. Fulford, who made his fortune marketing Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pale People. The ghost of Fulford's widow, Mary, a devotee of spiritualism, supposedly haunts the mansion.
The tours run Friday evenings from July 7 to September 8, rain or shine. Tickets can be purchased in advance on the day of the walk, or half an hour before each walk begins, which is 8:30 p.m. For more information, call 613-498-3005.
