A Trumbull man was charged July 27 with carrying or brandishing a facsimile firearm and disorderly conduct after he allegedly went to a North End psychic reading establishment and demanded a woman's $1,200 payment be refunded.
Bond was $5,000 for Frank Lawrence, 61, of 10 Woolsley Ave.
Police said Lawrence and a woman visited an upper Main Street psychic reader to request the $1,200 the woman had paid for a reading earlier that day be returned.
Lawrence had a pistol visible near his waist and put his hand on the weapon several times "to intimidate [the] victims into returning [the] money," according to reports. A worker at the business reportedly said Lawrence and the woman threatened to harm the establishment's staff.
Police said after the initial reading, the woman had told a friend about what had happened, and the friend recommended she call Lawrence to seek a refund. Lawrence's wife reportedly also is a psychic reader.
Lawrence allegedly agreed to go to the business with the woman, she told police, but she claimed she didn't realize he had a weapon until just before they entered the establishment.
Officers apprehended Lawrence outside the business, confiscating what looked like a small black pistol on him, police said. The report did not indicate whether the weapon was real or not, although it noted the alleged weapon was not loaded.
Police said the woman, who was not charged in the incident, was advised to avoid any contact with the psychic reading business and to instead seek a refund through civil court or the Better Business Bureau.
TWO CITY NEIGHBORS and one of their daughters were all charged July 30 with breach of peace when a dispute involving two children turned physical.
Arrested were Priscilla Tirado, 33, of 489 North Summerfield Ave.; Linda L. Vereen, 48, of 542 North Summerfield Ave.; and Shalonda L. Vereen, 33, of 8 Asylum St. All were released on a written promise to appear in court.
Police said Tirado claimed her young son had been called a derogatory name by Linda Vereen's young son, and went to her neighbor's house to discuss the situation.
The two women began talking, and a third individual, later identified as Linda Vereen's adult daughter, Shalonda, allegedly approached Tirado and hit her in the face, telling her, "You don't mess with my family."
Tirado and Linda Vereen offered different versions of how they argued before the third woman appeared on the scene. Tirado insisted she just wanted to settle the matter "between mothers and as adults" but that Vereen had pointed a finger near her face, police said, while Vereen claimed Tirado acted aggressively and turned the confrontation physical by grabbing her finger.
One witness reportedly said she saw the third woman slap Tirado in the face, and thought the third woman now was hiding in a nearby house.
When interviewed, Linda Vereen reportedly said she didn't know the woman who had hit Tirado. Officers were suspicious of Vereen's story, police said, and thought she was withholding information.
A second witness reportedly came forward and mostly backed Linda Vereen's version of events, but also told police the third woman was Linda Vereen's daughter, Shalonda.
Linda Vereen then admitted she had lied about not knowing the third woman's identity, police said. She reportedly called her daughter on a cell phone and Shalonda came out of hiding at her uncle's nearby residence.
Shalonda Vereen denied she had ever touched Tirado, according to reports.
A VINCELLETTE STREET man was charged July 25 with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny after allegedly stealing and using a credit card from a North End home where he was doing handyman work.
Grebert Francilme, 43, of 159 Vincellette St., also was charged with interfering with police. Bond was $50,000.
Police said a woman hired Francilme to do some work at her residence, and she later noticed a credit card and some of her bank checks were missing. A credit card company called to inform her of "unusual charging activity" with her card at local businesses.
The card allegedly was used to pay for gas, food and items at a home improvement store. Police said the victim went to the home improvement store to inquire about the charges and learned Francilme had used the card to charge a $179 purchase, leaving his real home address and cell phone number during the transaction.
Francilme was arrested when he went back to the woman's home to finish his work. Police reportedly found four of the woman's checks in his out-of-state vehicle, which had an incorrect registration.
Police said Francilme was being investigated for possibly stealing items from inside another client's vehicle.
The suspect was charged with interfering with police because he allegedly gave a false name and birth date when first apprehended.
AN ANTHONY STREET man was charged July 30 with assaulting emergency medical personnel and two counts of third-degree assault after allegedly attacking hospital staff after he had injured his arm while drunk.
Abner Torres, 23, of 217 Anthony St., Building 18, Unit A-202, also was charged with breach of peace. Bond was $2,500.
Police said officers went to a Lakeview Avenue home, where they were told Torres had just injured his arm on a vehicle's glass window and gone to a hospital with his girlfriend. Witnesses reportedly said Torres was heavily intoxicated and "behaving very erratic."
As officers drove toward the hospital, police said, they received a call about a violent person out of control at the medical center. Torres allegedly had been yelling, swearing and chasing a person around the Emergency Room lobby and into the parking lot.
Hospital security put Torres into a secured bed after a brief struggle, but he continued to cause problems while his arm injury was treated, police said.
Officers left the scene when it appeared Torres had calmed down, but they soon were called back because the suspect allegedly had spit in the face of three hospital workers and kicked another worker in the chest.
Torres had to be injected with a tranquilizer and remained in the hospital for detoxification, police said.
A RESERVOIR AVENUE man was charged July 25 with first-degree larceny and criminal attempt to assault a police officer after he allegedly drove a stolen vehicle directly toward a police cruiser.
Linell Mosley, 21, of 1135 Reservoir Ave. also was charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault with a motor vehicle. Bond was $25,000.
Police said Mosley was seen driving a stolen car in the East End, and when a patrol officer attempted to pull him over he instead drove faster and "directly at" the police vehicle.
The officer driving reportedly made an evasive maneuver to avoid colliding with Mosley's car, hitting a curb and blowing a tire in the process. Another officer in the police car injured his neck in the accident, police said.
A short time later, Mosley reportedly passed a police car before he pulled over his car and fled on foot. He was caught when he tripped and ran out of breath, according to reports.
Police said a check showed Mosley had two outstanding warrants, with bonds totaling $150,000.
A NEW YORK STATE man was charged July 25 with second-degree criminal trespass when he allegedly used a fake worker pass to enter an "American Idol" concert at Harbor Yard Arena.
Bond was $500 for John Fitzsimmons, 46, of 1713 Gates Ave., Ridgewood, N.Y.
Police said arena security workers apprehended Fitzsimmons for gaining access to the concert with a fake "working crew" pass. The suspect reportedly is not an employee of the concert promoter, musicians or arena.
