Real-life ghostbusters claim they have uncovered spooky goings-on as part of an investigation into the paranormal at a Helston club.
The Godolphin Club in Wendron Street has been investigated by paranormal investigators Most-Ghosts and they say their findings have revealed spiritual presences, light phenomena known as orbs and voices in the top half of the building, formerly known as the Fusion Bar and now re-launched as G's Club.
Willie Pollard, chairman of the Godolphin Club, told the Packet: "I know some of the girls don't like going up there last thing at night. It doesn't worry me - I've never seen anything. But anything is possible."
Most-Ghosts was set up three years ago by Amanda Holdgate, manager of the Cornwall Hospice Care charity shop in Meneage Street and a clairvoyant, and her partner, John Stockwell, a carpenter and the head medium of the group.
Together they began visiting local places looking for paranormal activity and, with their now seven-strong team, have also investigated The Rodney Inn in Meneage Street, the New Inn at Wendron and Poldark Mine among others.
They decided to look at the Godolphin Club after Ms Holdgate, a club member, began to sense spiritual presences in the building.
Ms Holdgate explained: "I go there quite often. I sensed a person walk through the toilet area."
In his report, Mr Stockwell said the group began their investigations at 10pm and the first thing they noticed were cold spots appearing and disappearing at random on their thermal imaging camera.
Mr Stockwell wrote: "Some large orbs were then captured on video coming and going through the main doors and again the temperature dropped as they passed. As Amanda was filming the room she was leaning on a table which started to shake quite violently and as she moved away she noticed a large orb pass her. As it moved away the table stopped its tremors and went still again."
He continued that fellow member Eddie saw the temperature on the thermal image camera drop from 27 degrees to 18 degrees and back up again as the orb passed, while fourth member Andrea saw a shape in front of the camera that looked as if it was trying to morph into a figure.
"Shortly after this Amanda was standing by the shaking table again and started complaining of pain and pressure in his ears and a feeling of nausea, but stepping away from the table and out of the energy, the condition stopped. Eddie then speaks to the spirit and laughter is heard, at the same time a bright blue orb drifts past us and a strong smell of urine accompanies it and the temperature drops again," he added.
Ms Holdgate said that one explanation for these findings is that the Godolphin Club is thought to be around 200 years old and is a former grammar school.
She added that the group also picked up still images of orbs on a digital camera.
Ms Holdgate said that people should not be scared of the spiritual presences, but warned against anyone going on paranormal investigations by themselves.
"If anybody is going to be going on investigations they must make sure they take a head medium with them. You must use a white light as protection," she stressed.
She added: "We respect spirits as well as the place. We're not a cult or anything - we're just investigators. We're all quite spiritual people."
Ms Holdgate said she hoped the group would be allowed to return to the Godolphin Club in the future to finish exploring the basement area.
