HERE?S HOW AND WHY MARK STINSON SEARCHES FOR GHOSTS AND STUFF
Q. Found any ghosts yet?
A. We?ve found some compelling things. But we?re always careful to say that we haven?t found anything conclusive. We don?t want to turn something natural into something supernatural.
?We? would be your group, Ghost Vigil Investigations. How did it get started?
We were all friends, and we knew that we could trust each other. We always joke, ?When you get on a Ouija Board, how do you know that the person across from you is not moving the planchet?? And I knew with these guys that they would not be figuratively moving the planchet.
How do the vigils work?
Basically, on a vigil you sit, kind of get a feel for the atmosphere, see if anything will happen and you ask questions to see if you can get some voice recordings.
What do you say?
I?m in the 1859 Jail in Independence, and I?m saying: ?I want to communicate with you. Don?t be scared of me. Just let me know who you are and what you are.? And maybe there?s some prisoner in 1865 who?s hearing voices and cowering in the corner of his cell. I just don?t know how all this works. There are so many possible explanations. What if there are thin spots in the continuum, you know? And you?re somehow breaking through?
You?ve got me there.
The thing that we?re most open to is that whatever answer we came up with last week is probably wrong. This is really a very nebulous, unexplainable field. We try to get answers, and we try to be reasonable. And that?s very much the trend right now, to have a scientific-based team and be very skeptical.
You?re a police officer. What do other cops think of your hobby?
I guess I get some kidding. Not very much, though. But, you know, this is ghost stuff. Everyone has a ghost story or some story about someone they know and respect experiencing something they couldn?t explain. So while they rib me sometimes, like five minutes later when no one?s around they?re telling me their ghost story. They?re like, ?I?m not saying this was a ghost, but??
