JANESVILLE - Paranormals, mark your calendars. The Southern Wisconsin Paranormal Research Group will host its fifth Annual Paranormal conference on Sept. 10 at the Best Western Conference Center.
The day-long conference will feature discussions on ghosts, extrasensory perception (ESP) and other unexplained phenomenon in the Stateline Area.
?The conference is mainly for people in our community. A lot of the stuff we are going to be presenting is local hauntings and things in this area that we have investigated. We are going to be showing people all the different weird things happening right in their backyards that they are not aware of,? said Jennifer Lauer, founder of the Southern Wisconsin Paranormal Research Group.
One of the mysterious local phenomena is the recording of mysterious voices at a Beloit home. Although Lauer is saving details on the recordings for the upcoming conference, she said the voices recorded are not from living people.
Parapsychologist Loyd Auerbach will be the event's keynote speaker. Auerbach is director of the Office of Paranormal Investigation and author of several books on parapsychology and ghost hunting.
Auerbach will present case files of the groups' finding as well as lecturing on subjects ranging from abnormal psychology to deja vu.
?He's very down to earth as well and fun loving. He's not your boring speaker,? Lauer said.
The day long conference will also feature other entertaining speakers throughout the day. Scott Christiansen, a psychic and author will do both group and individual psychic readings from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m.
?It's kind of fun. He gets the audience involved. Everyone has opportunities to get psychic readings and he will be available to do private readings for people,? Lauer said.
At 10 a.m. author and lecturer C.T Theime, a guide for ?Chicago Haunted Tours? will present the latest in ghost hunting and paranormal research.
At 11 a.m. Cindy Heinen, an electromagnetic voice phenomenon (EVP) specialist will discuss how voices can be recorded and used in ghost hunting.
Other speakers will include David Schumacher, science and technology advisor for the Southern Wisconsin Paranormal Research Group. Schumacher will be presenting case files of the groups findings, as well as lecturing with the groups founder and executive director, Jennifer Lauer, as they discuss their new book, ?Investigating the Haunted: Ghost Hunting Taken to the Next Level.?
The Southern Wisconsin Paranormal Research Group is based out of Janesville and has been in operation since 1999. The goal of the group is to bring credibility to the field of paranormal research and to make a concerted effort to display the best evidence and information. If someone is having weird dreams, hearing weird voices, or thinks their house is haunted, Lauer advises calling the group for help.
?We consider ourselves a community service,? Lauer said.
The group has close to 50 members. Anyone can join for $75 a year. Members can go on investigations, get the ghost hunters guide book, attend monthly meetings and have ?dinner with the dead.?
The fifth Annual Paranormal conference will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Best Western Conference Center, 3900 Milton Ave., Janesville.
Tickets are $25 a person in advance and can be purchased online at www.SWRPRG.com, or by calling (608)931-3633.
