Sundergarh (Orissa), Aug.21 (ANI): Many students in Gamki village in Sundergarh district of Orissa have stopped attending their school complaining that it is haunted.
Six girl students belonging to standard six classroom complained of restlessness and having noticed 'a strange shadow' in the classroom. The news spread and all students fled the school.
"I first experienced a shadow, which bore an odd influence on me physically. I could not control myself at that time. Since then I am restless," said Tapaswani, a standard six student.
The primary school having over 300 students enrolled in it, is deserted because of the rumour about the ghost. The panic-stricken parents are also unwilling to send their wards to school.
The school authorities have decided to conduct classes in open for the time being.
"It was decided in a meeting of faculty members to conduct classes of standard six in the open since the students are scared that there are some evil spirits in the school premises," said Dikhishyam Behera, Principal, Primary School, Gamki.
Medical officials feel that it might be a case of some phobia or psychiatrist disorder among some students.
"In such cases neurological and psychiatric examination is mandatory. We can state anything on it only after diagnosing students," said Dr. Debasmita Satapathy.
Meanwhile, the school administration has sought the help of the local police and hospital staff to solve this issue of a spook haunting the classrooms.
Sundergarh district is a tribal dominated area and the people have many superstitious beliefs.
Many rationalists have been carrying out general awareness campaigns for the last four to five years in this district.
