GHOST tourism could leave the Isle of Man in high spirits, according to a star of cult television show Most Haunted.
Richard Felix said the show's producers had been in talks with tourism officers over the possibility of filming a three-day live special in the Island.
Spooky sites featured in previous episodes of Most Hunted have become a magnet for ghost hunters.
He said: 'We are looking to do a live three-day special in the Isle of Man.
'I'm very keen to come. I'm a great ambassador for the Island, I absolutely adore the place.
'There are problems of logistics and expense, but we've already spoken to the tourism people and they intimated a possibility of financial backing.
'It would provide a boost for tourism. Ghost tourism is big business in cities like Edinburgh, York, London and Chester. Wherever Most Haunted has been has become the Holy Grail for visitors.'
Barry Quilliam, of the Manx Paranormal Society and co-founder Isle of Man Ghost Tours which organises ghost walks in Peel, Castletown and Douglas, is convinced that ghost tourism will really take off here.
His company is in discussion with Manx National Heritage about taking the ghost walks into Castle Rushen and is setting up a website which has links to MNH and the Department of Tourism among others.
Mr Quilliam said: 'Spook tourism will get more and more popular, especially as our walks establish themselves.'
Last autumn, Most Haunted was rocked by a UK national newspaper expos? which claimed that some of the show's spooky encounters had been fabricated.
TV watchdog Ofcom subsequently cleared the ghost show of fraud, following complaints of deception, ruling that it was an entertainment show which should not be taken too seriously.
But paranormal historian Richard reckons the revelations have do nothing to damage the show's reputation.
And he insisted: 'We don't fake it, we don't throw things around and slam doors.
'We show you the bits we can't explain. Viewers want to see the ghosts, the scary bits ? they don't want to see hours of footage of us staring at the walls with nothing happening. We get criticism but it is great TV.'
Yvette Fielding's team of psychic investigators are currently working on series eight of Most Haunted with 15 new programmes due to be broadcast on Living TV later this year.
