Prague, Feb 16 (CTK) - Security measures at the Prague international airport were not taken in reaction to a seer's warning about a possible terrorist attack, Interior Minister Ivan Langer (Civic Democrats, ODS) told public Czech Television (CT) today.
Armed policemen have patrolled at the airport and an armoured transporter has parked outside the premises since Wednesday.
"I can assure you that those are no tightened security measures as you think, and that they were not taken in reaction to a seer," Langer said, but he did not elaborate.
CTK received the information that the police were alarmed by a seer from a policeman in a bulletproof vest at the airport terminal on Wednesday, and it was confirmed by BIS counter-intelligence service spokesman Jan Subert as well as Police Presidium spokesman Pavel Hantak.
Senior opposition Social Democrat (CSSD) Jiri Paroubek says that the deployment of dozens of policemen at the airport on the basis of some clairvoyant's prophesy proves the absolute incompetence of the interior minister who is fully responsible for similar excesses. Paroubek therefore called on Langer to resign.
Special security measures will be in effect at least till the end of this week, foreigner police spokeswoman Nela Gajduskova said.
Policemen in uniforms and plain clothes patrol at the airport complex, mainly focusing on flights' departures for risky destinations.
