The Brocket Arms in Ayot St Lawrence is supposedly haunted by a monk who was hanged outside the pub, for getting another member of the church pregnant.
The monk, who lived in the Old Rectory with other church members, was also the last man to be legally hanged in the village.
Margery Waters, a cleaner at the inn, said: "A mysterious grey figure has been seen walking in and out the pub, and weird noises have been regularly heard."
Susan Lane: Manager at the White Horse in Welwyn
Sobering sights at the White Horse, Welwyn, encouraged the landlord to call in a ghost hunter.
Chris Van Den Heever, landlord of the 17th century inn, said: "Glasses were breaking randomly while he was ghost busting.
"We were told that downstairs there is man named John, haunting the pub. He was hanged on a tree, at what is now the allotment just outside the pub.
"We believe that he was hanged for rape and is obviously quite unhappy about it now."
Chris added: "There is a young girl upstairs named Emily. She was run over by a horse and cart just outside the pub, which is tragic."
Manager Susan Lane said: "Glasses have often gone randomly flying across the room and smashing.
"We've had orders for food, before we've even opened up and I've often had a very odd feeling around the pub."
The Plume of Feathers in Tewin is believed to be home to spectres, too.
The 16th century inn was home to a merchant and his wife. The merchant returned home after a long trip to find his wife had committed adultery and was pregnant.
In a fit of rage he murdered the wife and the child. Staff still feel an eerie presence at the building.
One barmaid told the WHT: "There is an area upstairs I call the sad spot. I don't like to go up there on my own, you can definitely feel it.
"Regulars also say that they have felt people brush past them in the gents."
There are also spooky goings-on at the Steamer in Welwyn.
Owner Elaine Alecks says she has seen not one, but two ghosts, who could be roaming the pub on top of the hill.
She said: "I've experienced things move, grey figures walk past as well. The customers all laugh, but I am a believer now.
"One presence appears to be from a lady who worked here for 27 years. She's always turning the lights on and off.
"Her husband still drinks here and he says that she was very efficient. Luckily, she appears to be friendly enough though."
The manager added: "When one of our regulars passed away recently, we experienced all sorts of hysteria within the pub.
"My husband was downstairs, cashing up, when the money tray flew across the room. I think that was the customer saying goodbye.
"The look on my husband's face was a picture, as he ran out the room in horror. I said to him, you look as white as a ghost!"
One pub which is now ghost free is the Red Lion at Hatfield, as the WHT reported last month.
The spirit was released by a medium, just in time for bulldozers to move in to knock down the Cranborne Rooms.
