MADHYAPUR, Thimi, March 13: It is surprising when we hear that a man fought with a ghost in this scientific age of 21st century.
But such an incident has occurred in Dethuche Tole of Chhaling VDC -4 in Bhaktapur District, although there is no evidence that the creature was a ghost.
Shri Bahadur Datheputhe, 40, has been injured and is still unconscious after he fought with the ghost at Dethuchhe crossroads at Jhailkhel last Friday, at the place where local Newars would throw away the clothes of the dead.
When Shri Bahadur who was only seven months ago retired from head constable of police, his son, 20 year-old policeman Krishna Bahadur Datheputhe and daughter-in-law Renu Dhatheputhe were returning home at 11:00 pm, father was suddenly lost, said Krishna Bahadur.
We were coming, we two ahead, and father behind, but suddenly we did not see father, and thought he went to relieve himself, but when we reached home and father did not come, the people of the village helped us search him until 1:00 am, he said.
Sri Bahadur Datheputhe told in a weaker voice what had happened that night only five hundred meters away from home, himself in a condition unable to move his body and in a semi-conscious state.
He said, 'a big man with wholly black body came suddenly when I reached Chhasal with the son and the daughter in law, and he walked with me'. 'When I moved a hundred and twenty five meters away and I tried to take a turn to my house, the man said, "come this way, not that way", and pulled me, I shouted, but in vain, the son and daughter in law nearby never heard'.
The ghost took me to the wheat field, we both fought there, I became unconscious after a long fight, after then, I know nothing, said the injured Shri Bahadur, adding he had not taken wine in the party.
Shri Bahadur who was found at 1:00 at night in the wheat field was taken to home by the villagers. His legs and body do not move and he is still in semi- consciousness.
He came to consciousness after two hours of reaching home, he was attended by shamans, but there is no improvement, said his brother Assistant Police Inspector, Sitaram.
All the wheat stalks in the field said to have been the place of the fight have been broken, whereas people are thronging to the wheat field and in his home all day Saturday.
Local Rana Bahadur Datheputhe, 70, Bhakta Bahadur Datheputhe, 63, Bal Bahadur Datheputhe, 62, as well as the people of younger generation, said they had seen with their own eyes the ghost walking with a oil-fed lamp at midnight.
Although he was taken to Bhaktapur Hospital Saturday, the hospital said he cannot be treated and advised to take him to Patan Hospital, but he was instead taken home.
The family was discussing where to take him, either to Patan Hospital or to the Birendra Police Hospital, the family said.
