Dear Editor, Daniel S. Davis's pompous complaint about the amount of space you gave to Ms. Loretta Johns' "Psychic Reading" business cries out for a response (Story on psychic did harm to teaching of real science).
He tells us he is a science educator and maintains that astrology, ESP, crystal readings, etc., "are all contrary to the understanding presented by the scientific method."
Mr. Davis is clearly woefully ignorant of the scientific research that has taken place - and continues - at several institutions in the U.S. and elsewhere into various psychic phenomena, and the body of evidence that exists to support the reality of some extraordinary abilities in certain gifted individuals. Whether they include Ms. Johns is not for me to say, as I do not know her.
I might have more sympathy for Mr. Davis's stance had he not gone on to quote Biblical passages in support of his argument.
Where's the science in that?
