POESTENKILL -- Ever since her son was killed in an alcohol-related pickup crash last year, Janice Thomas says she has been having paranormal experiences.
To try to get answers to the strange occurrences, she'll appear on the Montel Williams television show Friday with featured psychic Sylvia Browne to discuss the incidents.
"It was an overwhelming experience," Thomas said Tuesday about being on the show, taped previously with her daughter Tamara Thomas.
During the show, scheduled for 11 a.m. on WXXA (Ch.23), Thomas also gave her hoped-for "Frank's Law" some national exposure, according to a release from the show's producers.
Her son, Frank Thomas, 19, was riding in a pickup truck driven by his friend William Pendergast, 18, on the night of May 10 on Snyders Corners Road in Poestenkill when it left the road and rolled several times, killing Thomas. Pendergast was not hurt, but faces manslaughter charges related to the crash. He was indicted by a grand jury in November and his case is still pending in court.
Janice Thomas became enraged that a judge released Pendergast without bail on the same day she buried her son. She has the backing of the Rensselaer County Legislature in her effort and petition drive to get state legislators to mandate setting bail in driving while intoxicated crashes in which there is a fatality, similar to California law.
To date, no state legislator has taken up the issue.
"When Frank died in a car accident, his mother, Janice, started to experience strange phenomena around her house," the news release from the show said. "His (Frank's) sister Tamara says she feels it and even saw teardrops from his headstone. They need to know if Frank is contacting them from beyond," the release said.
Thomas said her life has changed since the death of her son.
"When you suddenly lose someone you've been around for many years things happen you just can't explain," Thomas said by phone Tuesday. "It was good to talk about it because, frankly, sometimes you think you might be going nuts."
