MEET Chepstow's very own 'ghostbusters'.
Mike Cannaby and Helen Livesey-Jones, who live together in Bulwark, Chepstow, have been ghost-hunting as a hobby for the last seven years.
Together as Enigma Paranormal and Scientific Research, they go on the look-out for phantoms all over the UK, armed with an array of gadgets and a desire to locate the supernatural.
Mr Cannaby, a 47-year-old IT technician and former Royal Engineer, said they work with other groups and often end up driving hundreds of miles to a site, although locations closer to home have included the Skirrid pub near Abergavenny and the Five Alls in Chepstow.
Using thermometers and electromagnetic meters, digital cameras and infrared camcorders, along with less conventional techniques such as dowsing, the couple gather as much data and footage from a site as they can.
The groups even use mediums during investigations, in an attempt to detect a spiritual presence.
They then employ freeze frame technology on a PC to study unusual images.
"We work from a scientific point of view. When we see something, we try to eliminate all other possibilities, until there is no other explanation but the paranormal," Mr Cannaby said.
Anyone with a 'haunted' property can invite Enigma via the website, www.enigmaweb.org.uk to carry out an investigation.
