The ghosts and poltergeists of Jasper are about to be revealed and helped by a group of locals.
What is going to be known as the Jasper Paranormal Research Society wants to explore the ?haunted? houses and hotels in town and give them a spiritual cleansing if needed.
?All over the world there is ghost hunts and especially in tourist towns,? said the project initiatior, who we will simply refer to as Kat, as she wishes to keep her identity in the dark until the project gets untracked.
There is a real interest in Jasper to get rid of its bad energy and that is why the research group is going to be created.
?I have heard so many things about Jasper and I have seen a few ghosts in hotels. We have three ghosts in this house; a lot of people (have) seen some of them,? said Kat, referring to her Geikie Street residence.
Kat has been interested in paranormal activities since a young age. In high school, classmates would ask her to come into their houses and look at what was happening. It was through travelling in foreign countries and joining some paranormal investigators that she gained her paranormal experience.
?I am a very spiritual person and I would never recommend people to play with (spiritual) stuff, especially with Ouija boards; nothing good comes out of it. I have seen some pretty bad stuff happening to people that played with them,? said Kat.
The main goal of the society would be to help people who experience fear and strange feelings about what is happening where they live. If necessary, items like sage and salt could be used to disperse the bad energy and cleanse the structure.
These elements were often used by different groups of aboriginals, which Kat was lucky enough to meet and from whom she obtained information about their practises. The experience could even go further, if needed.
?Sometimes I?ll receive messages and know why (the ghosts and poltergeists) are there, so hopefully that would happen and I would be able to know,? said Kat.
The idea of bringing people along when conducting a ghost search is more than welcomed by Kat.
She would like to see Jasperites become more open minded about it and start believing in it. It is the first step, said Kat, in being able to see paranormal activity. The come-along curious would have to know how to protect themselves from the non-humans, so they do not bring bad energy home with them.
?Ghosts are attracted to an item or a house where poltergeists are attracted to a person. You just have to put energy around you and not let them come into your space,? she said. Thinking and talking about the ghosts in your own house can also give them strength, and it is something to avoid if you are scared of them.
Some of the equipment required to search Jasper houses and hotels is on its way. Electronic voice phenomena reporter ? to record voice-like sounds that are not audible to human ears, also used to contact the dead ? motion detectors, infra-red cameras, infra-red goggles, and cassette players are examples of what is going to be used.
?With infra-red cameras (or infra-red goggles) you can almost see the shape of things, whether it?s an orb or an actual figure of a person,? mentioned Kat, who also said that she had caught some weird things on a cassette tape recorder before.
Unique to Jasper, the society would be ready to operate in April of this year, if everything goes as planned.
The group already has an e-mail address, for anybody interested about their future activities ? jasperprs@yahoo.com.
If you think that this local girl is crazy you are not the only one, as most of her friends think she is. Accepting the Jasper Paranormal Society practises? is just a question of being more open to new ideas, said Kat.
?Everyone thinks I am crazy. But it?s becoming more popular now; people are more aware of stuff and they are accepting new ideas. Maybe I have a great imagination, but I believe in what I have seen.?
