WAVERLY ? It was a packed house Saturday night at ?The Say No to Orbs Tour? put on by ?The Ghost Hunters? at the Waverly Opera House. This is the second year in a row that these paranormal investigators came together from all over the country to put on a few presentations at the Opera House.
The presenters this time are Nathan Schoonover, Doug Semig, Tim Yancy, locals Jason Gowin and Bill Angove, along with hosts Scott Lambert and Semig with a special guest appearance by purported psychic and spiritual medium Dick Buchanan.
?Exciting and different? is how Opera House owner Ron Nogan described the show. ?I?ve had to turn 100 people away.? He stated that all three days, Friday and Saturday night plus this afternoon, have been sold out.
Local ghost hunter Jason Gowin described why they put on these shows, saying that ?this community doesn?t get this a lot,? but that there is ?interest here.? He went on to say that some people around here may have a haunting and feel ?alone? and ?alienated? but this event shows they are not alone and helps them ?see how other people go through? a haunting. This will also give local residents a taste of what hauntings are like and the different emotions by people that are affected by them, such as ?fear, funny, and personal.? The crowd, he remarks, ?learns a lot.?
Gowin pointed out that this research is self-funded, and that they use ?a lot of pocket money.? Yet, he said, when they all get together it?s like ?paranormal summer camp.?
As for the performances, Schoonover talked about paranormal theory such as questions surrounding ghosts and various evidence used in ghost hunting. Semig described equipment in ghost hunting and his investigations at the Whispers Estates, a haunted bed and breakfast in Indiana. Yancey shared his own personal experiences with violent hauntings as well as some famous hauntings. Gowin described some of his own experiences with ghosts, while Buchanan discussed what it?s like to be a psychic when dealing with ghosts and the paranormal.
Gowin highlighted that the presenters have been all over the United States, such as in North Carolina, Arkansas and Florida, researching and giving speeches. Gowin also mentioned one haunting site he has explored in the area, the Burlington Methodist Church.
There were 75 people at last night?s show with one more slated for 3 p.m. this afternoon at the Waverly Opera House.
