FOOTAGE of Adelaide Arcade's resident ghost Francis Cluney is suddenly world famous.
Francis has attracted global attention since a flickering, man-shaped burst of light was caught for the first time on a security camera near the Grenfell St end of the arcade, and broadcast worldwide on the citymessenger.com.au website. (CLICK RIGHT TO WATCH THE VIDEO)
Adelaide Arcade promotions manager Sharon Leaney said a Japanese film company had also asked for copies of the footage.
"We've been inundated, there's been stacks of people asking about Francis," Ms Leaney said.
Former caretaker Francis Cluney was investigating a flickering light in June, 1887, when he fell into the generator and died. Adelaide Arcade, built in 1885, was the first mall in Australia to boast electric lights.
Comments on the City Messenger website included a Graham Day-Myron, of Hamilton, Canada, who suggested the footage was a "ghost marketing stunt"; while Tobias Olsson defended the footage and Francis.
Then there's UK paranormal investigator Kris Letton saying the "mind does boggle" at the footage but it requires careful examination. Adelaide paranormal investigator Jeff Fausch told the City Messenger he would like to interview people who had seen or felt Francis, and to "scout" the area to ensure there were no obvious reasons for the illumination, such as a sensor or a timer that flickers on inside a shop, throwing light out into the arcade.
"(However), I was certainly impressed from what I've seen," he said.
"It's close to the shop where the generator was originally, which is a good sign." To see the footage for yourself, go to www.citymessenger.com.au
