CHERAS: 5 years ago, Madam Chen went to visit the tomb of famous Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng and had several photos of herself taken there. After they were developed, the photos showed a strange white shape hovering around the woman.
After reading an article in Guang Ming Daily on the 14th of September about two ghosts that had been recorded on an office's CCTV system, Chen decided to contact the paper about her own strange photos which had been taken five years ago. She hoped that reporters would be able to help her get to the bottom of the strange white shape shown on her photos.
According to Chen, she had gone to Taiwan at the end of 2001 to visit a friend and do some sightseeing. Teresa Teng's tomb was one of the places she visited.
"I visited the tomb at around four o'clock in the afternoon. At the time, everything seemed perfectly normal. I only knew about the strange white shape when I went to pick up the photos from the photo shop and the staff there told me about it. I didn't worry about supernatural punishment or anything like that because I haven't done any bad deeds. I just felt astonished and thought of it as a queer incident to tell my friends about."
The photos clearly showed a strange white shape drifting past the tombstone. The original negatives had been lost during the years since the photos were taken, so Chen was unable to provide to Guang Ming Daily reporters for further study.
Guang Ming Photography Department Report
3 Situations Which Might Have Introduced the Anomaly in the Photos
Guang Ming Daily's photography department has suggested four different situations which might have caused the strange white shape to appear in the photos.
1. Reflection of light on the camera lens
When light reflects off the camera lens, this might cause strange white shapes to appear in the photos. High focus lenses which have a higher transparency will reduce the chances of this happening.
2. Differences in the environment
Ambient differences like air flow and air density could also cause anomalies to appear in photographs. This would explain why strange shapes only appear in photographs taken in some places and not others.
3. Smoke
In places like temples with lighted incense, drifting smoke can also look like supernatural phenomena when they are photographed. A cameraman who smokes might also contribute to this effect.
Because Guang Ming Daily employs professional photographers who are well-acquainted with the professional equipment they use, the chances of such anomalies occurring in their photos is extremely low.
Conclusion: Without the negatives, its' hard to tell whether the white object in Chen's photos is a ghost or just an artifact created by environmental factors.
