LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio ? Ghosts will be sighted wandering through Woodland Cemetery on Saturday.
The cemetery will be host to a two-hour long ghost walk where guides will dress as deceased area historical characters.
"We choose outstanding people, like our own founder, John Campbell," Naomi Deer, ghost walk committee chairperson, said. "The person who dresses like John Campbell will be standing beside his monument. He will tell his story, like where he was born, details of his life and how he died."
Another person whose story will be depicted is the first man who was killed in the Civil War.
This is the fourth year for the walk. Last year between 1,500 and 2,000 people attended the free event.
"Every year it gets larger," Deer said.
In addition to learning about the deceased, ghost walk visitors can tour the Woodland Abbey, a community mausoleum usually closed to the public.
More than 40,000 people are buried at the cemetery.
"It's been known as one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Ohio," Deer said.
The committee who plans the event is composed of Deer, Robert Price and Debbie Rogers. More than 30 other people also contribute to the event.
"It's a community service," Deer said. "You just have to come see it (the ghost walk). You can't realize how wonderful it is until you come see it."
The walk is free, but there is a small fee for programs that contain maps showing where all the characters will be standing.
The walk begins at 6 p.m. Saturday.
