ARE DEMONS REAL?

One of the most asked questions I believe we get through email and on the airwave of our very popular talk show, ?Are there really such things as demons?? and
?Can a human spirit harm us??. Now depending on whom you ask and whom you talk to you will depend on the answer. Everyone of us have differences of opinions
when it comes to the paranormal field and that concerning demons is certainly of no exception.

For over 30 years I have been involved in the paranormal in one way or another. Much of it I have had my own personal experiences dealing with the ?other side?
both the human type spirits and those of a very different dark side, what in Judaism and Christianity would be referred to as demons. In Islam they are called evil
gins. In other religions they are referred to as evil deities. Point is that most all religions have some sort of evil spirit embedded in their belief system (NOTE: I stated
?MOST ALL?). Some only believe in that of the human spirit and then again some don?t have an opinion. So evil spirits, demons, gins, etc? are not something just
created, no it has been passed down through the ages. So are the real? Demons that is?

My personal accounts from that of age 4 to present range from many types of paranormal experiences as stated before. Yes I have seen and encountered my
share of human spirits but on the same instance I have encountered that of the demonic. I have been face to face with demons and I mean that literally. When you
have this type of experience it is something that will change your life completely. It will make you decide do I continue to do this or do I get out of this. Of course you
should know my decision, if not then I stayed and continue today helping others that have experienced similar situations. I guess I can and will never convince
others of the reality of it all but I know what I experienced was very real and very horrifying. And if you are a paranormal investigator or thinking about becoming one
then you better be prepared for an encounter one day with something so sinister and dark that you too will have to make a decision. And this type of work is not for
everyone but for a few of us it is, and it is a calling so be very careful of your decision. Because it is not just you, it is your family, and team members that your
decision will affect as well.

Some facts of documented evidence were that of John Bell and his family. Known as the ?Bell Witch? to many. Many people believe this to be one of the oldest
documented demonic cases recorded. While just as many people think it was just an evil human spirit but because of the events recorded as taking place I
personally believe it was a very strong demon. The other recorded case is that of the very popular movie, ?The Exorcist? that was based on a true event of an actual
possession. This is where the demon takes over the body of a person, which was very real and still occurs today. In either 1999 or early 2000 some of the priest in
Rome brought a young girl that was supposedly possessed. Now they don?t just jump in and make bold statements, as many tests must be passed to convince the
church that the person is possessed by a demon. And this young woman fit the billet to be exorcised. According the report from a newspaper it was stated that the
young woman was brought to the Pope, Pope John Paul II, and he tried to exorcise the demon as well but no success. It was stated that he could not due to his
health and was too weak at the time. The priest claimed the girl was speaking in an unknown language, had enormous strength, and had marks appearing on her
body for no reason, and was desecrating church items. These are enough red flags to prompt the church to take notice. Other red flags that you may be dealing
with something of a very sinister nature is scratching/knocking sounds coming from walls (these can also indicate a normal type of human haunt as well), clients
being scratched, bitten, burnt, furniture that is very heavy being moved or levitated, a person being levitated, foul smells that may be that of sulfur, rotting meat,
sewer, death, and a few others. But remember with many of what was listed you want to take care to rule out natural occurrences.


To often we can jump to conclusions or assumptions that every sound and smell is associated with a haunt especially that of a demonic type. Think about it this way,
the client tells you that they smell foul orders in a particular location. My first thought to examine is a leaking sewer line or a dead animal under the house or in the
house. How about knocking in the walls? This could be merely water pipes that have come lose behind the wall and due to pressure on the lines they move around
and bang or knock inside the wall. First and foremost make sure that you are dealing with something that is paranormal and not normal. However, if you rule out
normal occurrences then as investigators take heed and notice and get your guard up as the situation could deteriorate rapidly.

If you learn anything from this short article it is my hope that you will recognize the tell-tell signs of a negative situation during an investigation. To many times
investigators have walked into a situation that caught them off guard and cause serious repercussions to not only the client but also the team. Be aware of your
clients and team members disposition mentally. Many times you will notice in a demonic case that during the investigation tempers will flare up. Take note of any
unusual changes in personalities of all concerned. When confronted with a possible demonic situation unless you know for sure what you are doing do not use
religious provocation or try to confront the entity. Contact someone that is very credible in the field of dealing with these types of situations. Never be afraid to back
away from an investigation and seek help, this is what gets most in trouble. Lastly, should you have to back away from the investigation be sure to inform and
comfort the client that you are not going to leave them hanging but have to get extra assistance from someone that is knowledge with the situation. Personally, I
would not make the conclusion yourself as to informing the client that is demonic leave that to the experienced person that you get to help with the case.

This article is interesting from a couple of perspectives, at least for me. The author has approximately equivalent experience to mine as I read it, and he is convinced he has personally had experience with demonic forces that were beyond the scope of natural explanations. A few comments.

The Bell Witch is quoted and from the text I infer that this constitutes at least one of his demonic experiences. I have found nothing in the literature nor have I yet to encounter a credible investigator who does not dismiss this as a combination of myth and history without any foundation whatsoever in phenomena.

"The Exorcist" is mentioned. This is a case with which I have some background. The exorcist who performed the rights on the young boy upon which the book and movie were later based told me personally "Frankly, exorcism more often than not changes the belief systems of the affected and the family surrounding. That may be why it is effective."

It makes sense for anyone not trained in human behavior to be quite careful of what is done and said in potentially emotionally charged situations. It is especially important when the situation is laden with hints of phenomena. This is why it is so necessary to remain focused on investigations, to choose teams for their emotional maturity and not to reveal anything to clients during the investigation. In fact, the best investigations are conducted with the clients absent, unfortunately often difficult to do.

There are many natural causations for what is commonly considered demonic activity. The author mentions several. Another for scratchings in the wall could be the presence of termites or more likely carpenter ants.

We are a creative lot, as I have written elsewhere. It is quite plausible that demons might exist, but it is far more plausible that demons are generally the creations of our own imaginations. These creations are quite real since they constitute our own individually created realities. They may even seemingly be physical to the individual experient. Hence the often quoted concerns regarding demons.

It is far more common, at least in my experience, that so-callled demonic forces are generally explicable by natural means. That said, there are natural forces that are not fully understood. Levitation comes to mind immediately. Having personally witnessed a credible levitation, I can say they do occur. However, I do not immediately jump to the conclusion that the leviation is the result of a demon or demonic force.

The bottom line to this article is 'exercise caution' with which I wholeheartedly concur. However, the author and I arrive at this final conclusion by different paths. Both are potentially credible, and I leave it to each to determine which seems most correct given your experience and what each of us has written.

I am with Phenom on this one. I also think that if a person believes strongly in something that the person can infact create what they believe into a reality. Again, I think that many Poltergeist cases have more to do with the person unconsciouly creating the phenomena rather than a spirit causing it. I think that a lot of the activity above might be a result of this.

Very that provoking. Although my paranormal experiences are rather limited, I have come face to face with such an evil presence that all I could think about was finding the nearest exit and putting some distance between me and whatever that was. That is not an experience I wish to repeat.
