LONDON. Research into mediumship by Emily Williams Kelly (left) at the University of Virginia in North America has produced ?outstanding? results, Prof Bruce Greyson told a meeting in London on 26 April 2008. The findings have not yet been published. Prof Greyson, director of the university?s Division of Perceptual Studies in Charlottesville, Virginia, added: ?We are embarrassed at how good these results are.?
He was speaking at a Society for Psychical Research (SPR) Study Day devoted to the life and work of Prof Ian Stevenson, Greyson?s predecessor as the division?s director and Carlson Professor of Psychiatry (see separate report), who died in February last year, aged 88 ? see obituary http://www.paranormalreview.com/News/ta ... fault.aspx
Stevenson is best known for his reincarnation (life before birth) studies but he was also actively researched life after death. Prof Greyson (right) referred to recent mediumship research carried out in the UK by Prof Archie Roy and Tricia Robertson, in Scotland, and Prof Gary Schwartz at the University of Arizona, Tucson, US, which his colleagues set out to replicate under their own conditions.
The University of Virginia Health System researchers, under Emily Williams Kelly, were concerned that their tight experimental controls might prevent mediumistic evidence from being produced. Indeed, Prof Schwartz had suggested that the conditions imposed on the mediums might not be ?psi facilitary? but the results have surprised everyone.
We?ll carry news of those results as soon as they are published.
