Negative Ions

I was watching a program the other evening and they were using equipment that produces negative ions in one of their investigations. It was under the premise that spirits were more easily contacted with negative ions present. Has anyone here found this to be the case?

I have heard of a similar theory out there. I know that some investigators will use an ion counter during their investigation to see if there are any changes when activity is present. I haven't had a chance to check out this theory as the counter is about $200 US to purchase.
I would also be interested to see if anyone else has tested this theory out and if they found a difference.

I think at this point many such things are just experimental so it would be nice to test some of these theories out over a period of time to see what sort of results we get.
