At the Tang Mausoleum, in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. The mausoleum has long been a myth to Chinese archeologists.
But that myth is being transformed into a tangible reality, thanks to a series of recent photos of the site using remote sensing technology.
The big mound is the centerpiece of the mausoleum. The so-called "Xia-Gong", or "underground palaces", lie two kilometers away. The new, aerial photos reveal a wall encompassing the whole structure.
A little more of the myth unfolds. The picture comes clearer. A vision of China seen at its ancient peak, then buried for centuries, now re-emerges with the aid of modern technology.
