WHAT COLOR IS your aura? Barbara Martin would like to know.
If it's golden, then you are wise; if it's a deep rose-pink, then you're in love. However, if the spiritual field around you is gray you're fearful and if it's black, well, you'll have to ask her.
The Los Angeles aura expert will discuss auras this week and explain how we can use this spiritual energy to improve our physical well-being.
In fact, that's the title of her book, "The Healing Power of Your Aura: How to Use Spiritual Energy for Physical Health and Well-Being."
I've always heard about these fortunate people, who could tell at a glance what kind of person we are. It must be nice to tell a saint from a sinner just by looking at the color of their aura.
Martin said she was born with the gift, although as a young girl she quickly discovered that most people are wary of psychics with this power.
On her Web site at spiritualarts.org, Martin said she began to see colors and energies around her family and friends, then animals, trees, and plants when she was only 3 years old.
Unfortunately, the youngster's flowering abilities got her into trouble on a regular basis. One of the stories recalled on her Web site explains.
"When an aunt was late in arriving to a family gathering, little Barbara blurted out she wasn't coming at all because she had died in a train accident.
"Her parents were horrified that she would say such a terrible thing, and she received one of many spankings. Yet the next day, they received the telegram with the tragic news that the aunt had in fact died in a train accident."
Thus it is with most gifts, they can be both a blessing and a curse. It all depends on how you use them, and Martin has worked hard to use her metaphysics in a positive manner.
She said she became one of the first to share her knowledge about the energy field that surrounds human beings. Her book "Change Your Aura, Change Your Life" went on to be published in more than 30 countries.
Later, Martin went on to co-found the Spiritual Arts Institute in Los Angeles, a nonprofit teaching group that helps others learn about the aura and metaphysics.
The good news is that our auras are constantly changing based our feelings and thoughts. The expression that "thinking good thoughts makes good things happen" seems to apply here, because Martin said that our auras improve with every good thought, word and deed.
Even better, the Mozart of Metaphysics says that anyone can learn to see auras, but it requires a great deal of effort and discipline.
Martin suggests that we use our aura to monitor our consciousness. Think of it as a spiritual support system, a MRI for the soul if you will.
"To change a condition in your life, you must first change your aura," Martin maintains.
So if you've ever wanted to learn more about auras, you might want to attend Martin's book signing at 7 p.m. Thursday at Borders, 2110 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach. (562) 799-0486. I'll be the one with the bright orange aura.
