MACOMB - Garret Moffett has turned the legacy of the famous Haunted Macomb tours over to Tim Weaver.
"Now that this has kind of fallen into my lap, I really want to take the spookiness to the next level," Weaver explained.
Working with Weaver will be tour guides Jim Mueller, Chad Frederick and Rod Shumaker. Moffett's wife, Michelle, who has been involved with the tour in previous years, also has given him tremendous support and will assist him this year.
Weaver has implemented some new changes to the tour that are sure to leave a satisfied crowd.
"We're not doing reservations this year," he said. "It just didn't work well, so we decided to fix that."
The tour has also been trimmed down to three buildings to allow more time for investigations.
"A big complaint we heard was that people were too rushed from site to site," he added.
People will receive a history of the building, some stories of previous paranormal activity at that site and will then be able to conduct their own investigations.
Weaver and his guides will provide divining rods and electromagnetic field detectors for participants to use. The EMF detectors will sense any disturbance in the air around them. Once they go off, Weaver recommends that people start paying attention to their autonomic nervous system; "a fancy word for goose bumps," he explained. This is when most people are able to see or experience the supernatural during the tour.
Weaver, a native of Bushnell, has been intrigued by the paranormal his whole life. Being able to run the ghost tour is "like a dream come true."
He and the guides have been rehearsing nightly, visiting the buildings and discussing their history.
"I'm really looking forward to turning skeptics into believers," he said with a smile.
The tour begins Oct. 6 and will run every Friday and Saturday through the end of November. Participants are encouraged to bring their own flashlight and camera. The tour group will register at A&G Mercantile at 7 p.m. The ticket price is $12 per person. Special group rates will apply to any group larger than 25 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
