The haunts of Tracy are the inspiration for a movie. But a few actors are needed to fill out the ghost story's roles.
A local writer and paranormal investigator needs more than 20 actors for her screenplay "Haunted," a story based on local ghost stories.
Auditions will be in Lincoln Park on Sept. 8. Actors of all ages are needed.
Michaela Brewer, who years ago began researching reported hauntings in Tracy, will team up with Pasadena-based film director James Tucker, who has directed more than 30 direct-to-DVD films.
Brewer said she knows the Banta Inn and the Tracy Inn are reportedly haunted, but says several homes in the area are as well, including her own.
She said she learned a man committed suicide in her home just two years before she moved in. After sharing her story with friends, Brewer said more than a dozen neighbors admitted they heard similarly disturbing accounts about their homes, too.
"After hearing so many stories, I began to think the entire city was haunted," she said.
Brewer visited the Tracy Historical Museum to find out what happened in the city?s history that might have contributed to its supposed hauntings.
"I began to think there was a massacre or something," she said.
She documented her research and decided earlier this year to turn the stories into a screenplay.
"All these great details have got into the script," Brewer said. "Of course, I?ve embellished it to make it more marketable."
She said the film will be scary, but not over-the-top gruesome.
"I want this to be the type of film your daughter can play at her slumber party," Brewer said. "There?s going to be a lot of real-life moments. I wanted to give it more dimensions than the average scary movie. A lot of scary movies have the gratuitous violence, but we wanted to have more of a broad market appeal."
Because the story is about Tracy, Brewer and Tucker want local actors to audition.
"We just wanted to make it kind of a community project, to really just bring out the culture in Tracy. There?s really a lot of great untapped talent out here," Brewer said.
Actors will be charged a $3 registration fee for the audition to cover the cost to rent the park.
