You may not foresee a future in "Psychic Radio," but you have to admit the station has one of the best radio taglines ever: "Psychic Radio: we know you're listening."
The station was recently launched by CBS Radio Detroit both online at psychiconair.com, and as a secondary, HD-3 channel (more on that below). So now you can listen to 24 hours of psychics, including Maria Shaw, Kelly MacLeod, Lisa Smith, Kimmie Zapf and Steve Marshall.
Each psychic has their own specialty, according to CBS Detroit market manager Debbie Kenyon . Kenyon says CBS Radio is launching new niche formats such as Psychic Radio in part to provide content for a partnership deal with AOL that starts May 15.
Kenyon is enthusiastic about the deal. "It should triple our streaming numbers right off the bat," she says.
AOL had a similar partnership with XM Satellite Radio -- AOL members could listen to XM content online -- which ends May 1.
After May 15, CBS Radio's 150 radio stations -- and secondary channels -- will be available to AOL users along with the 200 stations AOL already runs, so look for CBS Radio to develop more secondary channels with unique content (How about a Detroit music channel?)
But hold on -- what's HD-3? You must have a special HD radio to listen to each FM station's new, secondary (HD-2) channels over the airwaves. While anyone can access Psychic Radio online, it appears that only those with the latest model HD radio will be able to listen to Psychic Radio over the air. If you bought an HD radio a few years ago, you probably can't hear it.
Bob Dylan's Cadillac dreams
Recent Pulitzer Prize-winner Bob Dylan has a theme for his weekly XM Satellite Radio show next Wednesday that will be dear to the hearts of Motor City gearheads: "The Cadillac Era."
As reported in the story "Inside Dylan's Brain" in this month's "Vanity Fair," fully half of the music Dylan plays on his show is pre-1960, and, as popular as Caddys are now, General Motors' luxury ride inspired dozens of songs in that time period.
Here's a few of the tunes Dylan will spin: "Cadillac" by Bo Diddley , "Brand New Cadillac" by Vince Taylor and His Playboys , "Long White Cadillac" by the Blasters , and "Courtin' in a Cadillac" by Jerry McCain .
"Theme Time Radio with Your Host Bob Dylan" airs all day Wednesday on XM 2 , at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on XM 40 , and at noon on XM 15 . For repeat air times, go to xmradio.com.
What does Gaddis know?
Mildred Gaddis' daily morning show on WCHB-AM (1200) continues to be must-hear radio for anyone obsessing upon the mayoral text message/perjury scandal. Gaddis herself is in the spotlight, as the Rev. Horace L. Sheffield III is asking Detroit police chief Ella Bully-Cummings to investigate Gaddis after he claims she told a listener that she knows the long-rumored party at the Manoogian Mansion happened, because she knows someone who attended. Gaddis, Sheffield argues, could have a lead for police to follow in the Tamara Green murder case.
Smiley leaving Joyner show
So did Tavis Smiley leave the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" because he has "too many commitments," or in fact, as Joyner charged on his blog, did Smiley quit because he's upset about all the angry letters and e-mails he's gotten as a result of his tough stance on Barack Obama 's candidacy? It depends on who's talking.
In a statement, Smiley insisted that he didn't quit, but that he would continue his twice weekly commentaries on the Joyner show "...with the same energy, passion and commitment" until the end of June. Smiley stated that he needed to clear some things off his plate so he could devote his attention to new projects his company is launching.
Briefly
