The next story is just another example of why you should ALWAYS get permission to investigate a location.
WESTBORO ? A couple of men hunting for ghosts at Westboro State Hospital on a dark night this week were interrupted by the rattling of handcuffs.
John F. Harkins Jr., 27, of Woburn and Daniel T. Runyan, 21, of Lynn, were arrested Monday for allegedly breaking into a storage building at the hospital, which houses patients with mental illnesses.
?They were ghost chasers,? Police Sgt. Chester E. Hallice said. ?They weren?t looking to do anything, just trying to find ghosts.?
A campus policeman reported seeing three men breaking into the hospital?s storage building about 2:25 a.m. Monday. The security guard said one man jumped out a window and fled, but two were trapped in the building.
Officers from Westboro, Northboro and the state police, as well as two state police dogs, helped search for the intruders. Sgt. Hallice said he yelled a warning to the men inside the building, ordering them to give themselves up.
?Once the dogs got there, it lasted about 5 seconds,? the sergeant said. ?The dogs barked and (the men) ran right out.?
Mr. Harkins and Mr. Runyan, unarmed, were greeted by a band of police officers. They were arrested for trespassing on state property and breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a misdemeanor.
The third man, who jumped out a window and ran down Lyman Street, was not found, Sgt. Hallice said.
