Mia Lane-Gomez says some awfully strange things have happened at Cactus, the restaurant she's owned with her husband for 17 years.
So much unexplained activity has taken place at the 19th-century structure that a paranormal investigator from Sacramento will check out the brick building in Woodbridge on Saturday night.
Paul Dale Roberts will be at the Cactus at 7 p.m. Saturday, when dinner will be served and Roberts will discuss the basics of paranormal activity. At about 10 p.m., Roberts will use his equipment to investigate whether there are any unusual sightings.
The public is invited, but Lane-Gomez advises calling ahead of time for reservations to make sure a table is available.
Lodi became a popular community for paranormal enthusiasts, so much that the Lodi Paranormal and Historic Anomaly Society was formed last summer and has weekly meetings. The group investigated reported abnormal happenings at an old North Sacramento Street office building in November.
Saturday's investigation at Cactus doesn't involve the Lodi group, but that group is invited to attend, Lane-Gomez said.
So what's happened at the Woodbridge restaurant to cause so much commotion? Lane-Gomez reports these incidents:
A stack of papers suddenly catching fire on Super Bowl Sunday this year, which she describes as "very weird."
Six lids to blenders used to mix drinks suddenly vanishing about six months ago — just the lids. The blenders were still there.
A water faucet in the men's room suddenly turning on — all by itself. It was on a Monday when the restaurant was closed, and only Lane-Gomez and her husband were there.
A man named Frenchie refurbishing the building being killed when he fell from the third arch in the 1980s. Reports indicate that Frenchie's ghost is still there.
For those having dinner on Saturday, call 367-1632 for reservations.
