Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: June 15: This could sound straight out of a Ripley?s Believe It or Not, but looks like Navi Mumbai has its fair share of spirits. First there were reports of a three-headed-woman who came knocking on doors at KoperKhairane and now there?s this one. Of the spirit of a woman who troubles resident. Reportedly, a true-life story as witnessed by Vashi2Panvel.com reporter, Dinesh Yede.
It should have been a usual hot summer night for Anita and her family living in Karave gaon, Nerul. Her husband had gone out on night shift duty, and she had invited her niece to stay over with her. At about 12 midnight, the niece was frantically knocking on her neighbour?s door. ?My aunt is possessed! She is calling herself Kalpana!?, she wailed.
Her neighbour was Anita?s brother, Dinesh. When he reached Anita?s home, he found her sitting cross-legged on the floor, arms folded across her middle and body swaying dangerously in a forward-backward movement. ?What happened? What?s wrong?? asked a sleepy-eyed but panic-stricken Dinesh. Anita continued to sway and stared at Dinesh.
?I could feel the gooseflesh. It was scary. She wouldn?t talk. All she did was stare. I don?t know what came over me. I was very scared, but I asked her, who she was and she said, ?I?m Kalpana.? My sister?s name is Anita. I was really scared. There is a woman, Kamal Kardak who chases spirits in our village. I called her and she thankfully she came. She started talking to my sister and my sister replied to all that was being asked. But all that she said was not about her. It was about some Kalpana. The lady then asked Kalpana to leave, to not harass her?Anita?as she had done nothing wrong. My sister nodded her head, and to this lady, it was the signal of agreement. She then asked ?Kalpana? how they would know that she had released Anita. Then she took a shoe and asked her to hold in her mouth. Then holding her by the hair, she took her out of her room and onto the chauraha. Suddenly the shoe fell from her mouth and she collapsed on the road. We sprinkled some water on her face and she was fine. She had no clue at all of what had happened in the last couple of hours.?
A large group of people had gathered around and witnessed the whole drama. Anita couldn?t recollect anything of what all had happened. But she did remember that she had gone to the loo which is situated a few feet away from her home. After coming back from the loo, she felt the need to go again. She now only remembers that she walked back to the loo. Beyond that, nothing.
Says Dinesh, ?This is not the first time this has happened in Karave. Earlier too there were stories of this happening to other villagers. But this is really scary. That night, after everything was over, one of my neighbours suddenly remembered that there was somebody called Kalpana who lived in the chawl behind ours. She lived there with her husband. He died of AIDS, and after some time she also fell sick and died. The next morning one of my other neighbours also said that when he returned home from duty at night, he had sometimes seen the form of a woman around this place. This incident has really spooked me. I have just moved into this new house with my family and I am very happy here. I would hate to leave this place for a new one.?
Meanwhile Anita has gone back to her routine life. Ask her if she feels odd about the whole incident and she says ?Since I have no idea of what happened, there?s no question of feeling odd.?
Also, our reporter did some odd queries about the spooky Kalpana. ?I?ve myself seen the entire incident from my own eyes. Kalpana was a Karave resident. She was HIV positive and died of the disease. I?ve heard that her spirit haunts this village,? says Shweta V Aarade, another resident who knew her closely. Aarade adds, ?This is all a matter of belief. Where there are good spirits, there are evil spirits too. People must have faith in the Almighty and not get frightened by such things.?
