Guthrie, Oklahoma's first State Capital appears to be the focal point of many paranormal investigative groups frequenting the Oklahoma City and metro area. One of the sites research teams are currently observing is the old Sante Fe Train Station at 409 W. Oklahoma Ave.in Guthrie. Voices on digital audio recordings called "EVP" or electronic voice phenomenon have been captured inside and out of the station as well as the old Merchantile building west of the Sante Fe Depot. Strange photo anomalies have been observed in the windows of the Train Station when trains pass late at night.
PROS Investigations a local paranormal investigative group from Oklahoma City has been researching this site for 2 years and has documented numerous paranormal events. Gordon Neff the current owner of the Station has also reported sightings of a female apparition in full period dress who warned a future bride not to come up stairs at the depot shortly before her wedding in the Ballroom.
PROS went to the historical society in Guthrie and found there was at least one murder documented in the area in 1907 by the Oklahoma State Capital News. A brakeman named John Rowe went missing on June 28 1907 from his train parked near the depot for repairs. On June 29, his body was found near the South Canadian Bridge and two "Hobo's" were held and charged with the crime. Lisa of PROS noted that some of the voice recordings captured last October as two trains passed revealed a man calling another man "Amos". One male voice also referred to the train as "the Streak" a reference to the "Silver Streak" which was a luxury train first assembled in the 1940's according to Neff owner of the depot.
PROS will be hosting a Sante Fe Train Station Ghost Tour Saturday the 25 of November. The first tour will begin at 8:00 PM and a second tour will begin at 9:00PM at the Depot in the restaurant area. A short seminar will be followed by a tour of the Station upstairs where "the Harvey girls" helped weary travelers fill their appetites by serving meals and assisting them at stops along the rails. The tour will also follow to the basement area and include actual recording sessions on an old abandoned train car. The groups will also get to tour the Merchantile Building just west of the tracks which was built in 1893 and has been the set of several movie companies. This eerie building reportedly hosts a hotbed of paranormal activity documented by the PROS team. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 405-521-1010 or visiting prosinvestigations.com
