Can canines be classified as ghost-busters?
Dear Dog Talk: I have a Wheaten terrier that is about 6 or 7 years old. He seems to sense paranormal activity.
He will not eat in the kitchen, and he seems "spooked" in the dining room. We have heard noises in our house, which was built in 1917. However, I do not believe that anyone has died on the premises.
For the past three months, at exactly 2:04 a.m., the dog enters my bedroom and tries to get in a corner of the room behind my treadmill. He acts scared and fights me when I try to pull him out.
I let him up on the bed with me the other night, and he kept turning to the one side of the bed as though something was there. Have you had any reports of this kind of behavior? Thanks.
Dear Ghost-Buster: I have had no firsthand experience with "paranormal canines," although I do recall reading once that dogs can sense the presence of a ghost.
We recently were looking at a house for sale in Hobe Sound, Fla. Henry Flagler, the 20th-century railroad magnate who developed much of South Florida, built the house at the turn of the century. It was used as a home for one of his railroad managers. One of my first questions about this house was, "Is it haunted?"
Maybe I had better bring in my black Labrador retriever, Sophie, to check it out.
