Do you think psychic investigator Allison Dubois saw this one coming? Paranormal mystery series Medium has been renewed for a fourth season, US network NBC has announced.

"Medium is a quality show with an outstanding star that has always delivered a very loyal audience," said NBC entertainment head Kevin Reilly. "We are pleased to know that we can look forward to more of its unique storytelling next year."

Medium stars Patricia Arquette as a Allison Dubois, a woman who uses her mysterious visions and dreams to help police solve crimes. Arquette won the Emmy Award for best actress for her work in the series in 2005, the same year Medium attempted to boost its audience with a one-off 3D episode that required special glasses to watch properly.

The series pulls in solid ratings in the US, averaging 8.5 million viewers per episode. It was created by Glenn Gordon Caron, who also created the hit 1980s drama series Moonlighting.

Medium airs in Australia on Network Ten on Wednesdays at 9.30pm.
