NELSONVILLE ? Does the mind have the power to bend a spoon? Can a Kirleen photograph of your aura reveal the fact that you smoke or the fact that large crowds of people secretly make you nervous? Is there an angel watching over your shoulder while you read this?
Such were the questions explored at the Fourth Annual Self-Health and Awareness Expo at Hocking College this past weekend. The metaphysical event was organized by the Self-Health and Awareness Center, a spiritual development and healing center in Vienna, W.Va. The exposition was part of Hocking College?s Holistic Health Care Program.
While traditional science might be skeptical of some of the concepts explored at the fair, many of those attending were true believers ? or at least interested in finding out what it was all about.
The two-day expo explored paranormal and psychic phenomena, as well as the nature of consciousness through various spiritual belief systems and metaphysical relationships. As strange as many of these concepts may seem to traditional science, researchers are finding that some metaphysical phenomena have some scientific base, according to Deborah Lindsey, director of the Self-Health and Awareness Center.
?We are seeing science reveal what many of us have known for a long time,? Lindsey said. ?Scientists are discovering that sound waves can be used to heal various ailments, but people here have known this for years. Quantum theory is proving what many of us have known for years. We?ve been demonized by people who are afraid of what lies beyond their understanding.?
Auras, for example, can be used to show health ailments and overall health, according to Bill Doham, who does aura photographs with Amid Angels. Biofield imaging systems can be used to create a color image of a person?s aura. Through a Kirleen photograph, a photographic image of someone?s aura can be created. These photographs can reveal things about one?s body, such as excess stress on the lungs from smoking or nervous energy created by being in a crowded room, according to Doham.
Quantum biofeedback can be used to measure chemical and energy imbalances in the body, and can be used to spot cancer before it even develops, according to Emily Van Doren Bush, a certified biofeedback specialist from the Heal Your Life Center. A headband is worn across the forehead, which measures energy impulses going through the body. The measurement of the impulses reveals chemical deficiencies, stresses or other imbalances.
Mary Gudmeson ran an ionic spa footbath that used osmosis created by electrically charged water intended to suck the toxins of out the body through the pores in the feet.
The expo featured other non-traditional healing methods such as quantum touch and energy.
Quantum touch is a hands-on healing technique that uses breathing and touch in an effort to align the body?s healing energy powers to heal muscle cramps and other ailments.
Connie Doham was diagnosed with Parkinson?s disease and bed-ridden for six years. After traditional medicine failed her, she turned to energy healing which she claims turned the incurable disease around. She is now fully mobile and does not show signs of the disease, she said.
?I still believe in God and angels, but I feel the spirit gave me the tools to heal myself,? Doham said. ?It can be done. Beating Parkinson?s was like cutting a mountain with a toothpick, but it can be done.
