WHO YOU GONNA CALL? Volunteers will take part in a ghost hunt at Muncaster Castle, near Millom, to raise funds for the Bluebell Foundation
AN intrepid group of ghost hunters are bracing themselves for a night in haunted Muncaster Castle.
Eight volunteers will bed down for what should be the worst night?s sleep of their lives next Friday to raise money for a Furness charity.
Mum-of-three Lesley Bennett is one of those taking part.
She said: ?We?re raising money for the Bluebell Foundation.
?It?s a charity that exists to give practical and emotional support to families who have lost a child or baby or if they have a child with a life limiting illness or terminal illness and to help couples who have problems with fertility.?
In addition to the eight volunteers braving a night in the Castle?s Tapestry Room, 14 will also take part in a ghost tour of the grounds.
The ghost hunters have paid their own expenses so that all proceeds go directly to the charity.
Muncaster Castle is reputedly one of the most haunted buildings in the country.
Tom Fool, who lived at the castle, created mischief, both alive and dead.
When passersby stopped at the castle for directions south he would point them to the quicksand instead of the ford.
Most of the unexplained occurrences at the castle today are attributed to Tom Fool.
There are also tales of The White Lady and a woman dressed in black.
Anybody interested in sponsoring the ghost hunters can pledge their support at The Masons Arms, in Dalton, or by calling Lesley Bennett on 01229 462176.
