"...When you are in the light, what will you do? When you were a unity, you split into two; now you are two, what will you do?"
-Jesus as quoted in The Gospel of Thomas
The psyche is a fluid state of consciousness bound into a net of enfolded hierarchies by meta programming which operates on levels of looping associations and identifications within various conceptual models bound by language. "I am Bruce Duensing" is is both a true and a false statement. As Alan Watts, in the last post observed, there are ghosts in our language. Perhaps what we truly are is beyond the broken barricades of language. Spacial orientation in time is another matter, if as some physicists theorize, that our true location is non local in nature and we are observing ourselves through a mirrored lens as an organic transceiver, then time in of itself, is a deceptive entrapment which operates as a defacto definition of an ill founded measurement.
"At the same time, unconsciously of course, I cast about to find something to identify with so that I can tell myself ?I am this? or ?I am that.? In spite of myself I think of ?being? as an end to be gained, something to be seen and sensed and cognized rather than what makes seeing, sensing, and cognition possible."
-A.L Staveley
The creation of a fixed state and station of observation in this oceanic potential sometimes referred to by the subjective term of an astral body, was one of the key elements, among several of G.I Gurdjieff's teachings. PD Ouspensky, as one of his students, developed the theory of eternal reoccurance, wherein we reoccur in the same spacial orientation enmeshed in the historical world ad infinitum, unless our state and position of orientation and observation become free of the associations and identifications of "Bruce Duensing". We have created a maze of our own design in which we inhabit by following it's convoluted pathways.
In the midst of these manifestations of being, one considers the possibility that these enmeshed identifications and associations that are a artifice of whom and what we are as in the digestive mask of personality can be broken, cut as if one takes a knife to a fishing net that holds in as yet unrecognized aspects, potentials that are held in check by these mechanisms.
Perhaps the trauma and irreconcilable shock in the spectrum of "fight or flight" which may run from a double bind in a relationship all the way to emotional or physical abuse, which leads to varying states of dissociative consciousness is the intangible rusty iron gate that is burst open to reveal an unknown cartography of our psyche, which is paranormal to our experience.
It is noteworthy that cases of poltergeist activity, possession and psycho kinetic phenomenon are an extension of an emotional state whether it is the unaddressable tensions in a relationship or in the workplace,or for that matter, a heightened sense of a non consensus conceptual model of reality, or at worst, emotional or physical abuse, when there is no escape from a double bind, there are varying degrees of dissociative cognition. A double bind being a psychological impasse created when contradictory demands are made of an individual, such as a child, a soldier or an employee, so that no matter which directive is followed, the response will be construed as incorrect or a situation in which a person must choose between equally unsatisfactory alternatives; a punishing and inescapable dilemma.
This has been our cultural imperative of warfare for centuries as if we were under the thrall of a malignant influence while as one sage individual, A.R Orage observed; "It is naturally difficult, of course, to convince ourselves that we are asleep. A sleeping person, in the midst of a dream, cannot usually wake himself up. The dream may be so unpleasant that it wakes him; or he awakes naturally; or he may be shaken into waking. Very seldom can one voluntarily wake oneself. It is even more difficult to wake voluntarily from hypnotic sleep. And if from these relatively light states of sleep it is hard for us to wake of our own accord, we can imagine the difficulty of waking voluntarily from the profounder sleep and dream of our waking state."
Perhaps this is the landscape of possession within our own physic labyrinth which is a faux reality that we chose not to acknowledge. Something slanderous was created in "the dream of our waking state" to resemble something else in a subtle sleight of hand.
To separate oneself from oneself as a last refuge of safety and to use these self same processes to identify and associate oneself with another who posses the "control" that one severely lacks...and that "other" being inescapably reformulated within one's own conceptual models, projected as evil, destructive,or abusive one sees a commonality within differing cultures of dissociate behavior in possession. One sees the emotional tension of a double bind as unusual powers of strength and psychokinesis in this projection as a variant of the Stockholm Syndrome, an extraordinary phenomenon in which a hostage begins to identify with and grow sympathetic with what holds them captive as this conflict becomes a discorporate physic repository of anguish.
This transference to another party, especially in connection with possession, an identification with Satan, among others in differing cultures, requires a severe ritualized reorientation toward a reconciliation of an ownership, a sanctity of self. This redemption of the former persona of the person afflicted as well as a reinforcement of transference as a banishment occurs, one is freed from the ownership of the "other." At minimum, the medieval "cure" of exorcism leaves much to be desired. One is reminded of ice water baths or the puritan stocks in the public square that were once sanctified as necessary.
This is also a demonstration of an entropic fall back position in terms of a failure in the evolution of spiritual practice beyond dogma. The Satanic forces that I am all too familiar with, need not resort to such a ham fisted demonstration. They display an extraordinary subtlety and sophistication and use persuasion, human desire, vanity and ignorance as extremely effective manipulative tactics. They do not shout, they whisper. The crux of this exercise is utilize influence so as to have ourselves as the locus of our own decision toward, if you will, a darkness, they will tell you it is not their decision at all, but was yours all along, due to your pride in ignorance of your own nature which is at it's heart, dissociative. A distinction between the paranormal and empirical is, at best, arbitrary.
When the paranormal and it's highly strange effects appear, often at times, we see that the passage of centuries has done little to advance our knowledge. A dissociation of the practitioners of exorcism also is evident which is further evidence of a more global psychological abstraction. The cries of the victims are not their own in this labyrinth and the practitioner reinforces through the victim what he seeks to "combat". Again the terminology of "language" as a conceptual and foundational acceptance of this behavior in the global context of conflict is an ancient snake eating it's own tail within a waking sleep.

However this recognition can fall into a subjective quagmire in the sense that one can easily assume that all such manifestations are negative, destructive or "evil" in it's most primitive label in our file cabinet. However, this is not so. Many paranormal experiences are framed by bias that is religious, cultural or social in nature as well as an instinctive fear of letting go of what we ourselves cling to as representative icons of "Me." We anticipate or frame such experience through these identifications and associations to the extent that they are self fulfilling prophecies.
I will give you a personal example of this. For a year it was my position of a national scope to coordinate, project costs and so forth for rehabilitation construction for a large firm. However, there was a secret..all of the facilities in this portfolio were destined to be "flipped" or sold once I had completed my work. I could tell no none. I was in a classic double bind of professionally lying as part of my interaction with local management which set in motion a chain of events wherein my conscience was in turmoil behind a mask of personality.
As an owner's representative,my word was my bond, however I very well knew by experience that payments were not always forthcoming to the contractors I had employed. I had one somewhat elderly gentleman who owned a small business with his son who had completed superlative work at a more than reasonable price. He told me that due to my employer's lack of forthcoming payment, he had to take out a second mortgage on his home..with much struggling with his own dignity...he begged me to see what I could do.
I developed insomnia, and slowly but increasingly strange events began to occur at night around my home. Loud bangs...odd sounds...the entire gamut of strange phenomenon began to disturb my family as I was held in check by my required dissociative behavior which separated values and moral judgment from my professional role, which led to a heightened emotional state. However, one night I could not sleep once again and went over to the desktop computer just to kill off this "dead time"...I went to the search mode and sat in front of the page on the screen and considered my situation and I wished I could type in a metaphysical search within key words to locate an answer to my situation...what words would or could I use?
Due to an inexplicable compulsion to type in the word "seven" I came upon a page entitled Seven Goblets which contained the writings of a cleric who refused to not call the faithful to worship in Afghanistan under Russia rule at that time, who was imprisoned and eventually was executed for his devotion to his moral values.
What I did not know at the time was that this was a written psychological operation which the Sufi's call "The Opening of the Heart" It had an immediate and to this day a profound metaphysical and alchemical result....a sensitivity toward others that was most definitely not present before this time.
The following day this experience provided the strength I needed to resign my position and make it very clear why I was doing so. The odd noises and events had stopped and while this made for a difficult financial situation, it was met by a calmer deliberate self that I had acquired in a unusual manner.
My point in sharing this experience with you is to underline potential and not make critical assumptions when in a relationship with the paranormal regardless of its manifestations. We may either view such experiences as stereotypes that become what we wish them to be or open ourselves to context as well as a healing process. One wonders in all of this, if we are not hedging at the edge of an evolutionary process that requires our participation. If we have, one then consequently wonders what potentialities that some of which we now consider paranormal, are perhaps awaiting us on the other shore of this gulf we refuse to cross.

The psychological state and spectrum of the divided self provides an ample opportunity to explore the self in relation to this phenomenon. Perhaps one way to approach the paranormal is to view this state in context by comparison of scale to an state of integration. This may allow a interior view of the exterior phenomenon of the paranormal in relation to a state of dissociation.
What the paranormal may be providing is a window of opportunity manifested as mirrors of our own consciousness within a emotional range, rather than an abstraction or isolated, inexplicable events.
At the same time, perhaps meaningful coincidence or synchronization is an extension as if a mirror of the the self as a potential drawing one toward an integration of cognition that we too often dismiss as a factor of probability, rather than our intangible materiality manifesting itself onto the scrim of an illusion of empirical categories we ourselves have created such as the dualism of Self\Not Self or God \Not God. Perhaps its the weakness of our conceptual knowledge as framed by language that keeps inside of a self referential bubble devoid of any trans personal connection to what we consider materiality, which in reality is always in a state of transformation as we ourselves are...in this sense the paranormal is defined by inverse logic...what is consensus reality and what is potential reality?
For some to venture off this map is to confront not the opportunity, but the fear of the unknown which is only present due to our inability to avoid "letting go of nurse may mean you find things ten times worse." and this fear undoubtedly is a trap we have set for ourselves. Should another species from within the vast universe come upon us, this sentient creature would immediately recognize our own dissociative state, which the paranormal provides us with ample opportunity to explore.
